Im taking my car to a shop to have the oil changed. I have 18K on it and im wondering if there is anything I should have them check out. Last oil change I had fresh syn tranny fluid put in but thats all I have had done since I got the car (aside from oil). Im going to have my tires rotated (front to back) while im there since I haven't dont that. Kind of reluctant to have my wheels aligned because they seem perfect right now and I don't want them to screw anything up.

Going to stick penzoil platinum in her.

how are the brakes holding up? have you changed them yet? i cant imagine you have to check much on the car...its still has low miles on it.

here is what oil i use coyfish...idk if its any good but i figured it wouldnt break down as fast with it...i still change oil every 3000 miles https://www.amazon.com (commissions earned)

Just follow your owners manual, under the severe service intervals and you'll be fine. Don't really need to go above and beyond that.

cool thanks guys. Should i bother swapping / aligning tires ?

Yes, definitely rotate the tires. That's also an opportunity to have the car up in the air with the wheels off to just have a look over the brakes and suspension.

everything should be fine at this point unless you live in an extreme climate area.

but now i see you live in florida. should prolly check over your air filter and cabin filter though.

Here's the recommended specs right from MyMazda (severe duty schedule):

  • If necessary, inspect, repair, clean, adjust or replace Engine coolant level , Function of all lights , Brake and clutch fluid level , Tire inflation pressure and tire wear , Power steering fluid level , Washer fluid level
  • Lubricate All locks and hinges
  • Replace Engine oil , Engine oil filter.
The cabin air filter is another good idea too. If you shop around online you can pick up one for around $25.

Aside from that, if you're really ambitious, rotate tires, and clean the wheels inside and out, then apply some wheel wax/sealant on them. Give the car a good cleaning, then clay, polish, and wax it too.

Cool thanks. I don't use the AC much. Would that influence replacing the cabin filter?

Also im taking my car to a tire / repair / etc. shop to have the oil changed. Do they check fluid levels or should I tell them specifically to check brake / power steering fluid.

Is clutch fluid different from tranny fluid?

Along with what Steve said, and only since he mentioned it...

We have an independent detailing forum with a wealth of knowledge about polishing, waxing, claying, etc. You should definitely check it out.

Most repair shops do some sort of full service inspection. You can do it yourself in about 15-20 minutes if you know where everything is.

Your trans. fluid is different than clutch fluid. You won't need to change trans. fluid for some time. You will, however, need to change the rear diff. fluid around 30k miles.

The cabin air filter is independent of the AC. If you run the fan at all, it builds up with dirt and outside junk. You'd be amazed how quick they get dirty.

Yes, we've got quite a few guys on here that are big into detailing, and I recently created a local 6/MS6 detailing thread. Check it out if you've got any questions.

wait, so you should change your diff fluid after 30k. i dont recall reading that in the manual. i'm up to around 46k.

if thats the case i better get on it...
