205/45 ok for stock rims?

When I getting my oil changed today I was informed that my front tires had little tread left and I need new tires. The stock Dunlop tires are the only tire that is 195/50/R16. I wanted Yokohama Parda Spec-2s but the closest size they come in is 205/45. I read the fitment recepit and can't make up my mind if these will rub or not.

I have the Tein S. Tech springs so the front is lowered by 1.8-2.0 inches. I know this causes wear but all other reports I read on www.tirerack.com said the tires only last 25k miles for most drivers. I am going to need to make up my mind soon because I don't want to be driving around with low treads. On discount tires site they have the 205/45 listed as a fit for stock so I am not sure if they will rub.

Yeah they'll fit. It's not the best fit since the wheels are kind of skinny but they do fit.
If you're just using the stock wheels they won't rub at all.

Will they wear faster then the Dunlops because I can't replace tires every 21,000miles

Has any one actully tried to put 205/45's on stock 16s? If so how did it work out? Thanks for the info rowan.

I had 205/45 on my 16s when I had a Protege5.

If you are really concerned about long lasting tires, stop looking at "ultra high performance" tires. Go for a 205/50/16 tire which will fit the rims better anyway, and give you more options to chose from. Then you can pick something not as sticky but longer lasting.

I am fine with them lasting around 25k just not 12k or something like that. I am rotating the tires when I get my alignment as I still have 70% tread on the back and 40% on the front. I getting new rims in a few months so I will buy summer tires for those and snow tires for the stock wheels.

205/45/16s fit ok on the stock rims. i wouldn't go any wider than that. 205/45s and 205/50s are both w/in 2% of the stock diameter, so i'd say you should be ok depending on the actual tires...i have 205/45/16 Kumho V700s, and they are noticeably shorter than stock (about 1").

205/45's will have a .2" shorter sidewall and .4" smaller diameter (all other things being equal) than stock. Your speedometer reading will be less than 2% off, but it will change. There will be no rub.
