Based on peak power / torque @ RPM figures I've found in various brochures here are very crude power & torque curves for the old and new engines... (I've estimated torque at 1000rpm as 50% of peak - typical for NA engines)
Blue is current EU 2.0l
Red is new 2.5l detuned
Green is current US 2.5l 187hp

For the EU market there's loads more torque at lower RPM but horrible tail off at high RPM. As the 0-60 time is predicted to be similar they have just re-geared it to use the lower RPM torque and get the same torque at the wheels.
For the US market you can see the low torque is very similar (as you'd expect for the same 2.5l) but the high torque has disappeared! As this will have to be geared like the EU version, the US market will see a drastic decrease in performance.
