Interesting... there was supposed to be a Saab 9-6 version of the Tribeca

That's from the time when GM owned Saab, and owned 20% or so of FHI (Subaru's parent company at the time).

GM was (and remains) clueless in many ways. They bought a piece of Saab in the 1990's, then ended up owning basically all of it a few years later. The marketing people at GM decided that they were going to turn Saab into a full line Premium European Car Maker (think BMW, Mercedes, etc...). The *brilliant* (sarcasm alert) part of this plan was that they weren't actually going to spend any money designing premium new cars - instead, they were going to re-badge existing GM products. So, they brought out the 9-2x (Subaru Impreza), the 9-7 (Chevy Trailblazer), and they were planning the 9-6 (Subaru Tribeca).

Saab is now gone, GM went bankrupt, etc., etc., demonstrating the wisdom of this plan.
