If your CX 9 is under warranty do plan to get the pump change in last month mandatory.
My analysis says pump material) design is not sufficient to bear the thermal stresses on the pump and it's fails between 75k to 175k depending on your luck.
If we analyze Water pump issue in CX 9
Gen I : 3.6L engine : total failure
Gen II: 2.5L engine another failure
Alot has been discussed here and I am sure warranty claims would also be there but Mazda has not shown any appreciating response on this issue. They didn't give warranty or recall to solve this issue of premature failure. May be because there no one calling them in courts for the issues. But this issue is real and needs to addressed at Company level as they claim.

Guys I am telling you the story so that if your car is still in warranty don't forget to get it change in last month before the warranty expire or you will get a surprise next day you will be out of warranty.

living in KSA riyadh. I have a Mazda CX-9 2019 model at 80k. All maintenance done through Mazda dealer Alhaj Hussain. Currently i am facing issue of water pump noise in the engine. 80k inspection it revealed water pump needs to be replaced. The warranty w r t mileage is left but time slot of 3 year is finished.
I took CX-9, as their engines are notoriously reliable. I started finding terrible info on water pump failures, in the Mazda CX-9 first generation. But I hoped CX-9s in the 2nd generation with 2.5T engine will not have the problem , as it is a completely different design from the 3.5 and 3.7 used in the 1st generation which already had the frequent problem of water pump failure.
my vehicle is all maintenance inspection is done through Alhaj Aliraza in Riyadh KSA. And even than facing such a big issue related to engine that too when engine is just at 80k.
I have contacted company for any recall of good will replacement but no response has been shown till now. ..
I am pursuing Mazda company for free of cost replacement as mileage of my car is just 80k and I have always used recommend coolant in system. .my point is car is still under one lac kilometers and premature failure of pump while using recommend coolant is not understandable thing. Its a big safety concern as it can put the car in trouble while on highway and also cause coolant leakage on road leading to engine sizier. Thanks a lot
