2019 CX-5: When replacing battery, how do I not lose data, settings etc?

Mazda dealer quoted me $260 to replace my battery in our 2019 CS-5. A bit high I think. Costo has Interstate Group 35's, 640CCA, for about $130. I've changed many auto batteries in my life, but I no longer trust myself to figure a, "keep alive," jumper plugged into cigarette lighter socket, etc., to fool the car into thinking all is well and so holds data, settings, etc., without losing them. My local certified independent general machinic is willing to install the Costco battery and seems to feel OK about keeping things running. Question here: Any tricks we need to know about??? Any proceedure suggestions? Thanks, Dennis

I changed the battery on my (old) 2013 CX-5 and my current 2018 Mazda 3 and never had any issues with lost data.

No reason to keep it alive. Only thing you will have to do is reset your 1 touch window up and down for driver and passenger. Nothing else will be lost. I’ve replaced batteries on both my 18 and 19 cx-5s with Costco batteries.

You could easily plug a charge booster pak into one of the 'always on' lighter socket. On my CX5 it's in the console and I think the one in the cargo stays on , too.

$130 for a Costco / Interstate Group 35 640 CCA battery? It was $119.99 just a couple of months ago! And it’s now $123.99 in our area. And be aware Costco has no longer offered any “replacement” warranty on car batteries like they used to.

Without plugging in a “data-saver” on your CX-5, you’d lose only trip odometer values and one-touch up-and-down power window settings.

Go to WalMart and get an EverStart Maxx Group 35 battery with 3-year replacement warranty for the best C/P value. They even do installation for you on site for free without the hassle of bring the old battery back for core charge like Costco.

Used to recommend getting the Intestate Group 35 battery at Costco for the best value. But Costco has increased the price from $78.99 with 36-month replacement / 60-month prorated warranty before pandemic, to $123.99 with only 36-month prorated warranty.
