2016 Mazda CX-5 - What do you not like?

What I learned to dislike this summer is the fact that the vinyl cover around the infotainment screen apparently cannot deal with the heat in Texas. It started getting "bubbly" and loose around the edges where it's connecting to the rest of the dashboard.

It's a warranty item, so they will fix/replace it free of charge; but since it's not a part that they keep in stick anywhere it apparently takes eight weeks for them to import it from Japan.

I think you're right about that and this is a huge upgrade over 2 channel diagonally opposed circuits. Still, it makes me wonder what kind of ancient or worn out truck edj_03 was driving when he used the parking brake to avoid an accident.

Yup... Crappie ol' 2004 Dodge Dakota dbl cab 4x4... While well maintained, it had a lot of gremlins... Blown brake lines were effect of winter dicing with blue stuff that ate lines much quicker than expected (at least that's the latest story from my regular mechanic), possibly got inferior or defective brake lines installed when last replaced about 3 year prior.

I chalked up the whole experience to Murphys Law giving me futher reason to move on with this vehicle of my CX-5. Not trying to imply that the manual brakes are an end all for all situations, but given that situation that I had experienced, I'm speculate pumping the brakes (in addition to down shifting, breathing in deeply to make the load lighter, and bit of cursing and other gestures for good measure) to get the same reduction in speed/time to avoid nailing the idiot that cut me off would most likely have resulted in a far worse end result for the both of us. But I certainly realize this is definitely my own opinion, and there are might other options that are available to mitigate the situation. For me, this one removed 'safety feature' is just another victim in the auto industry's march towards improving other area that are not necessarily better or worse overall. Obviously, I had to weigh the positives of this vehicle overall with the negatives, and found I could live with this compromise...in the end, I'm very happy with this decision, but do occasionally miss the manual pull parking brake...

I had the same problem, and got it replaced under warranty. It took 2 weeks for my dealer to get the part in, and 15 minutes to install it.

Difference between Os Version and Fails-Safe vetsion?

There are two 55 updates available : 55.000.650 and 55.000.750B, both seem to stabilize the infotainment system (no crashes since upgrading on my car) but neither allows for real time traffic.

Can any one tell me what the difference is between the OS Version and the Fail-Safe version.
My OS is 51 and my fail-safe reads 55.000.750B.

That looks to me like someone got sloppy trying to pry it off with a screwdriver.

Sorry, I was referring to the bubbling dash panel around the infotainment screen. Mine looked very similar to the photo posted above. Got mine replaced under warranty. No issues with the new one so far.

Yep, they just replace that one piece around the screen. No big deal, dealer switched mine out in 15 minutes.

My only complaint after a month of ownership is the glare of the AC vents silver trim reflecting in the side view mirrors.

I'm very happy I decided last minute to go for the iActive as well. The Mazda Radar Cruise Control is sooooo nice to have, I love it.

The Infotainment system disables touch screen input when the vehicle is moving. I understand this. What's rediculous is that the vehicle can detect when a passenger is seated (for airbag reasons) yet it still disable the touch screen.

This is stupid. I want my passenger to enter GPS data.

I noticed this too, and then I checked my wife's Honda and it does the same thing.
Must be some new regulation.

If others are aware of cars that allows this please chime in. My former '02 Maxima (07/2001) build behaved the same way as current vehicles in regards to navigation & motion.

I drove a rental 2015 Subaru Legacy last month and the touch screen seemed to be 100% operational at any speed while driving. It had the large screen, but didn't have navigation so I couldn't try that part - but everything else seemed to work (settings & functions, apps, etc).

Folding mirror control is still too awkward. My Mazda 2 has a simple button to fold in and out, much better this way rather than the rotating 4 way switch.

Our 2001.5 VW Passat does the same way with the rotating 4-way switch for power folding outside mirrors. But the Lexus CT 200T I drove recently does have a dedicated push-button switch. May be Mazda coped it from VW?

Strangely, Lexus CT 200T has exactly the same problem like CX-5: driver side outside rearview mirror has the reflection of chrome AC vent trim where many people complained on CX-5! (boom08)

I've seen that on other cars as well but not the navigational component of the Infotainment system.

Had mine replaced 3 weeks ago. Same problem. Not screwdrivers. Seemed to be just sloppy workmanship

I've had my CX-5 since the last day of May. It's a 2.5 Sport with full infotainment and GPS (I added the GPS SD card from an eBay seller). What I don't like ...

1. Rear headrests .... They stay at home. Block visibility. Cannot lay the rear seats down in the sport with out removing them or jamming the front seats way forward.
2. Rear seats do not lay flat
3. Paint and clear coat seem thin. Bugs and bird poo etch in hours. I cannot imagine what a nightmare love bug season will be ... Which starts .... Well right about now.
4. Gloss black interior dash/shift trim .... Scratches way to easy
5. Driver seat in the the sport is pretty much He!! Hard as a rock ... Passanger seat is much softer.
6. Manual seat lift on driver side stripped in the first month and had to be replaced.
7. Dash trim around info screen started de laminating ... See pic above. Replaced...


MY BIGGEST ISSUE ...

Loud wind noise coming from the rear driver window at the mid pillar/ seat belt area. At highway speed it sounds like the window is open. Drop ur ear with in 3"s and it is very loud. Passanger side Not nearly as pronounce. Have been working with my dealer. Drove 2 other CX-5s last week. The service manager and I both agreed mine was the loudest of the 3 by 25-50%. The dealer made some adjustments to no avail. There is no clear seal issue. Next step is a South East Mazda CS rep will inspect and make recommendations. The dealer says they want me happy and claims if Mazda cannot fix it they will put me in another CX-5. We'll see.

I had the car since the end of May. Have made more trips to the dealer than any car I have ever owned ... 5 now. Been put in 3 different rental cars. Over all this particular CX5 is not inspiring confidence.

I had a wind noise on a window on the house, it was really loud if the wind was straight on, took me ages to find the root cause, it was the tiniest of cracks in the seal surrounding the window, you just wouldn't have believed that the noise emanated from it.

I would have a very close look for something similar.
