2016 CX9 Owners Thread

He does a pretty good job at pointing out the good and bad technically. Somethings like, long hood, complicated engine, black skirt all around which will fade like crazy (chrome on black plastic, ugghhh)

speaking of armrest, I just noticed this, the cup holders are right in between the command controls and the arm rest, that's no problem when the cupholders are vacant but what happens when you have a large iced coffee there, wouldn;t that get in the way ? my CX-5 has the cup holders towards the passenger side and clear path to the command control wheel.

Tomcat1446 - I had similar thinking - but the armrest sits high enough that there is plenty of clearance to easily access the joystick. A tall straw in one of those iced coffees may be a hindrance but the design is actually pretty good on this. A 32 ounce fountain drink fits nicely in the cup holder and doesn't seem to be in the way. It isn't a big deal at all.

It does get in the way of my large water bottle...Also, if a passenger has a drink, it's also a bit bothersome...but I can live with it.

Very personal review , some of the cons were not real cons to me... some I agree with but most cons seemed to be there just to be there so review is neutral and positives/pros are not making it sound like reviewer is too overly enthusiastic (biased) even that tone of his voice seems nagging :) . Overall you can not make a enthusiast oriented car and at the same time compete with Pilots and other Borollas of it's class... Yes I also agree that in Mazda 6 this 2.5 Turbo would have to AWD standard.
Also finally someone confirmmed that 93 Octane makes with car not fall off cliff with HP past 4K rpm.... I would use 91 Oct for every day and 93 Oct for highway trips where at higher speeds extra 27hp is a nice thing to have... Black plastics are there for those who drive in any semi off road conditions and do not want tons of paint chips and scratches, once a year 20 minutes of time spend to apply plastic trim gel will make it look like new , shiny black and serve it's purpose.... I wish we had matte aluminium trim in and out instead of shiny chrome .... kind of the same as alu trim on GT dash . I would love this alu look on exterior instead of chrome Another semi truth is cost of 20 inch tires vs 18's - it is pretty much the same ... I got some Falken 20s for 135usd shipped ! lot less than most of people will pay for 18s... I wish 20s would be an option on all trims!!!

How accurate is the compass in the car? Scrolling with INFO to the Compass screen, it never points in the right direction to me. I never use that option...just curious to see if it's the same for everyone else.

From what I remember you have to be in motion for it to show the correct direction. Initially, I had the same observation as you.

The same here.. The vehicle has to be in motion in order for it to work. Pretty much accurate all the time I tested it for a day.

Regarding the dark gray plastic that lines the majority of crossovers today, it serves a very important purpose. It seems so many people complain about the look of them but I'd rather have them than a rust problem on an otherwise very good condition vehicle. I see many late model P/U trucks that don't have the plastic lining along the fenders and they are already rusted. The alternative is painted and very few models offer this. They include the top line Kia Sorento and Volvo XC90. The Sorento's tight body color fenders bring it closer to looking like a minivan. The gray cladding on most crossovers lend to a more rugged appearance SUV buyers are looking for.

Most cars on the road today have no plastic cladding, and no rust. Manufacturers these days provide rust warranties that are far longer than the bumper to bumper. The Mazda is the only car in the past 20 years that had plastic cladding around the wheel wells, and none of my prior cars had rust issues. The last car that I had with rust on the body was my '83 Honda Prelude.

I assume you live in Texas based on your username. Of course you don't see rust. We northerners drive on salt for 4 months out of the year. I'm telling you I see many 6-7 year old vehicles with rusted fenders. We're talking 2010 trucks that cost over $40k and have embarrassing rust.

Yes, savagegeese videos are pretty good but being a sportscar guy he mostly focusses on the technical details and not on features, legroom, etc. Him, Alex on Autos, Redline Reviews, Fast Lane Car (sometimes lame), Everyman Driver (even lamer), CarQuestion (very detailed), MotomanTV are some youtube reviewers I regularly follow.

Interesting thing I saw in there is why the hell Mazda decided to have such a huge hump for the driveshaft connecting to the clutch pack? You can probably fit a F150 driveshaft in there. Some things about this car just make me mad (scratch)(shrug)(huh)(notcool)(pissed)(bang)(mad). Only thing I love is the looks and the drive but I am not buying a Miata. I also want a practical family hauler.
X2.
I've owned a 6 and a 3 before and now a miata, almost a Mazda fanboy. But to me Mazda seemed making the same mistake they made in the past that prevents them from going bigger in the market which might be a good thing to some people.

The CX 9 would be perfect if they didn't stripe out some features like the more adjustable seats and heated steering wheel(deal breaker for me, the Canadian model has it, at least make it an option Mazda!)
c'mon that's a bit harsh, Sorento is a great suv but every new car will have teething problems,

but be honest, for the average joe if he knew nothing about the cars and you asked him to pick Sorento or new CX-9 based
only on styling both fully loaded to the hilt with their respective top trim, leather, wood , LEDs, which one do you think he will pick ? 100% he will pick the CX-9 on styling. I see so many Sorentos it's not unique anymore, I've only seen one black CX9 so far in NYC ! yes only one since release, it was almost like xmas when I saw it one the street, I shouted to my wife that's the new CX-9!!! LOL

at the end of the day, we're all Mazda enthusiasts who want a great vehicle, so I commend the new buyers for stepping up to the plate and giving us future potential buyers real world feedback, so to that I say thank you. hopefully the infotainment will get resolved, I think Avidien has a point, start unloading all those useless emails and text from the head unit to clear up memory.

I just saw a youtube video posted from the official Mazda Australia YouTube channel and their 2016 CX-9 has a stop/go feature for the Radar Cruise Control which stops a car completely like Acura MDX does. Is this feature also missing in the US version just like the heated steering wheel?

Regarding little piece of carpet ....

I think it goes in the middle on the floor, middle row, in front of the middle seat.

The saleman didn't know where it belonged and suggested the same place. I have since put mine under my right (driver's) heel. I figure that little piece will be cheaper to replace than the whole floor mat. :) I know, given the velcro and snaps with the full size driver's mat, that it doesn't go there (safety reasons?) but that was the first place my mats wore out in my late Mazda6.

Regarding clunk from suspension (just catching up with this thread!)...

I have noticed this as well. Please let us know what you find from the dealer. I'm assuming this is considered normal behavior but would like to know for certain.

I have noticed this too. I'm also interested to hear what they say. I'll mention it when/if I get back to the dealership.

Well, you know what happens when you assume--and don't read people's "Location" in the margin. I have lived in the northeast for 46.5 years; hardly any rusty cars here in Penna, unless they have body or paint damage.

Not saying it's a high percentage but I do see plenty of late model trucks and SUV's with fender rust. I just think the added protection of plastic fender covers is better to have than not. Honestly, I wouldn't buy an SUV that has a bare metal fender design because I keep my vehicles at least a good 10 years.

Below is a common sight. Late model Silverado. $35K+ truck rusting away long before the end of its life is no fun. The most common one I see with rust is the Ram p/u. The rest of these trucks look brand new otherwise.

Maybe so. But if most of your sightings are on P/U trucks, I'll then make an assumption that it relates more to the activities the vehicles are used for than the climate.

But isn't that also part of what SUV's are for? To go at least a little off road where there's potential debris flying up at the fenders and rocker panels.

AutoGuide.com has a long term CX-9 and they are doing periodic videos. New one today is a comprehensive towing review. The first review of its kind. Check it out!

I agree. I'm seriously trying to avoid any change.

Actually the email says they will change only "the control module". I don't know what's that.

BTW today I was unable to launch the NAV. When I hit the NAV button, I just get the black screen with the text "loading NAV" and never was able to load. Perhaps is the memory SD? I even take a video in order to upload the mp4 file to youtube and share it with the dealer.

nav%20not%20load.jpg

did clearing out the memory of old e-mails and old text messages work ? has the constant re-booting subsided ? I'm looking at the new CX-9 but this thing has me worried, I don't want a car that keeps re-booting.
