2016 CX-5 Transmission…5 or 6 speed?

New to me 2016 Mazda CX5 Grand Touring. Was wondering if this is a 5 or 6 speed transmission? It will go into 5th gear on the highway and is running about 2500 to 2600 rpm at 75mph. It didn't come with a owners manual but the original window sticker was in the glove box and it says a 6 speed transmission. It shifts fine going through all gears.

@ 75 mph your should be turning (with stock tires) ...

6th gear = 2340 rpm
5th gear = 2765 rpm

What is your tire size ?

If the gear shift lever is pulled leftward toward the driver into the "manual" position it will display the current gear while driving or sitting still. It will display "5" or "6" or whatever. Also, when operating in manual mode, say for better control on rough or hilly terrain, the transmission will downshift to lower gears as car slows or stops. Meaning you will start out again in 1st gear. However if 2nd gear is selected manually before starting out (say to minimize slipping when starting out on snow or slippery surface) it will downshift to no lower than 2nd when coming to a stop. Stays in 2nd to start out again on the snow or whatever.
The OP may want to familiarize themself with manual operation up and down the gears if they have not done so. In manual mode 1st gear winds out really fast.

Not necessarily. I have seen instances of it shifting back into 1st at a complete stop, despite having selected 2nd while still rolling.

Second gear is selected manually BEFORE moving the car. What you say is true if just selected while rolling.

I've had a few instances where it stayed in 2nd at a complete stop, don't know why, maybe some kind of software glitch. For the most part it goes to 1st at a dead stop.

P225 55/19. So on the left of the instrument cluster it also has the digital number of what gear you are in and it won't go past five. Also I put it over in manual mode and shifted through them and couldn't get it into 6th.
6th will only engage over 45-50 mph. If you're at 75 and in 5th, something is wrong.

Try a TCU reset:

I suggest taking your car to a transmission shop. Ask them to change the filter and inspect the valve body, solenoids.

While you were in manual mode? or Drive. I have seen this maybe twice while in manual mode. I don't think it's a glitch. Sometimes, the transmission might simply decide that it can stay in second from a stop.
