Long story short I've been chasing a SLOWLY disappearing coolant issue for a few months. Back in September I decided to start changing my own oil and noticed the coolant reservoir was completely empty. Since then I've been monitoring it. A sniffer test proved to be negative but my guess is the leak is so small that there's not enough gases to trigger the liquid to turn yellow. Today I finally got my test results back from Blackstone (after waiting over two weeks) and it shows a small amount of coolant in the oil (.26%). Bummer.
My question is what should I do next? I'm based in Salt Lake City and I've yet to really find a reputable mechanic with experience working on Mazdas. I could go the dealer route but don't like the idea of paying dealer rates. The main issue is this is my wife's car and uses it a lot for her work so downtime is going to be an issue.
The car has never overheated which sounds like a good thing at this point but she has to keep using it until I find a mechanic to do the work.
I loved this car and would brag to people about how trouble-free it was. I took good care of it. 5k oil changes religiously. Anyway...super, super bummed about this.
