2015 CX-5 AWD Off-Road Review (Everyman Driver)

if i were going to some light off-roading on a regular basis, i would get a subaru.

Amen, I had a 2010 Subaru Forester on some winterforce snow tires and I followed an H3 down a pretty gnarly two track in the woods, he couldn't believe I made it through the same stuff.

The CX5 is incredible on road, I have H&R springs and 19's on mine and I love it.

This 2015 CX-5 didn't have the new outside mirrors indicator signal so maybe the later built one has them?

Although you could easily do a lift and some terrain tires, maybe a softer or sway bar delete.

I've done about 100 off-road miles since buying my CX-5. While the sway bar is a great benefit for sporty pavement driving, you are spot-on in that it doesn't allow enough articulation in rugged terrain. Last week I was crossing a drainage ditch across a back-country road when I lost forward progress. I immediately got out to survey the situation and the car was rocking, high centered on the left front and right rear tires. A small push on the top of the B pillar had the car rocking back and forth about six inches.

Removing a couple of rocks in key locations let me power out of the ditch.

A FWD CX-5 may be able to handle trails in the desert, but if you live somewhere with frequent rain (I.E. anywhere in the east) you ARE going to get stuck in mud somewhere.

Little boys in mud puddles; Fun Fun Fun. BUT rule # 1 for off roading You can't tell how deep they are from the top.
