I see there are many sill scuff plates 2014 for the 2004 CX-5 going for less than $40 and all from China. Has anyone installed any of these and how do they compare to the OEM ones? They say they are made from Stainless Steel, but I am guessing they are of a thinner metal and perhaps they are just cheap brushed steel made to look like stainless that will rust over time. Thanks for your help, it is appreciated!

Mine were $30-40 from china, cant remember exactly how much. They're aluminum, so no rust, and are shockingly more durable than I expected. Ive stomped on them accidentally a few times and it didnt even dent. I wired the lights run to off dome lighting inside the car, so theyre completely automated

To add to this, I also to sill plates for the trunk from china (I want to say $60), and they are very cheap. One I've had to refasten already. Looking back, the sticker style would have been a better decision for the bumper/trunk.

I have the OEM sill plates and I am not very impressed with them. They look nice, feel sturdy, but they are somewhat "short" as in they don't cover the entire sill from front to back, nor do they have a lip to cover the front - where it is most likely to be kicked/knocked by a shoe.

That being said, I did not want to chance getting a Chinese set because if you search these forums, some members complained of a very harsh chemical smell from their chinese sill plates and even had to remove them.

With my OEM sill plates, I ignored the provided template and mounted them as close to the front of the sill as possible.

As for the rear bumper protector plate, I had the OEM one but it looked so cheap. It has a thick rubber edge and is very "Tall"..it is not flat with the bumper. It is also short and does not provide much protection from left to right. I removed this and bought this one:

This one has a lip and covers almost the entire bumper. I have had it for 8 months so far and no rust. I used the "3M" (probably not real 3M) tape already mounted and so far I have not had any problems.

Hope this helps!

The Chinese ones do have a chemical smell but it took me only a week to get rid of it. Left them out in the open on my deck for a week and then installed them.

I have had mine installed for over 4 months now and they are holding very well. Only paid $14.00 for them.
