2014 Mazda 6 Touring
I bought my 6 about 5 months back, it's a touring w/Tech. I am contemplating on whether to get a Mazda car remote start which is pretty expensive and inefficient or to buy a aftermarket engine start which seems to be coming with a lot of features. I need advice/suggestions on which option I should choose. I was adviced by some of my friends that installing aftermarket stuff may void my warranty, which I definitely don't want given the expensive electronic system onboard.

Please enlighten me on this. And Cheers to all Mazda 6 owners!

It definitely won't void your warranty. Take a look at this. It was written by the guy that does all my car audio, and should answer most of your questions.

thanks

I have read this article and it sounds promising, however I still need to check with local retailers if they have anything for my 2014 6. I heard not a lot of companies have starters compatible with the 6.

Mine came with the factory installed Remote Start and I'm not all that impressed. Maybe I just don't get the expected limitations but I was hoping to be able to remote start from the check-out line of my grocery store, etc. in order to cool my car off some before me and baby get in, but it only works sometimes and even when it does work it usually says it can't find it... I don't see much use for remote start from home considering I park inside my garage. Anyway, maybe the aftermarket have better range? I'm not sure, just thought I'd share my uneducated thoughts on the subject :)

You are right. It won't work if there are lot of barriers in between you and the car. And the range is only about 300 ft even if your remote was able to find the car. It's only helpful in early mornings or when you have the car in sight. But I am glad I am not voiding the warranty. :)

Aftermarkets will have a longer range as well as mobile apps to start the car from anywhere. But they come with their own share of disadvantages.
