2014 GT - Leather seat stitching pulling/fraying

Greetings,

I've been driving a new 2014 GT for about a month, and I noticed already that some of the red stitching in the leather seats is pulling and fraying a bit. Is this normal? I would not think so for a brand new vehicle. I'm a small guy and pretty careful when I get in and out of the car. It doesn't look like anything is really causing any friction or snagging. Would a dealer do anything to fix this? It would probably require removing the upholstery/replacing the entire seat.

Any thoughts / advice?

Thanks

I've had my 2013 since last June and haven't noticed anything like that. Although I haven't exactly been looking for it, but nothing has jumped out at me. I'll try to remember to take a look on my way home today.

Okay, here is a photo. I realize it may not look like much now, but I can see the situation getting worse from here.

I wouldn't worry about it.

But, if you feel it shouldn't be frayed, stop by your dealer and see what they say.

Just my 2 cents.

I wouldn't call that fray... Those are tiny waxed polyester threads and any maker with leather seat is prone to that.

Had that same issue on my 350z. The pulls tend to feed on themselves, since exposed fibers pull more easily. Carefully use a lighter to melt back the loose fibers.

Perhaps less risky than a lighter would be some soft wax. Rub it on the stitching and that should bind the threads together well enough without risking open flame.

Beeswax for any thread used on leather. Can be bought at most craft stores.
