Mazda CX-9 GT Moonroof/Bose/Nav
Hi,

First time post as we only purchased our new Mazda CX-9 GT on Saturday. Sorry in advance for the long winded first post!

I suspect our Sirius radio is broken, this is the original SAT radio/Nav as installed, here is what happens:

Selected SATas source on the touch screen:
Radio reports updating channels 0%.....10%......20%.....30%..........<15 minutes go by>......30%.....
I prod about randomly, including swapping the source to FM and back again:
Radio reports updating channels 30%......90%.......100%.......
Radio then defaults back to the channel selection with only channel 184 being available, teh test channel I think(?). <No audio or anything at this time>
A short pause (may 10 seconds)
Acquiring Signal (or is that Satellite?)
....... Nothing ever happens, not audio, nothing...

At this point I assumed I just need to activate...
Ring Sirius, they send activation....
Nothing... Still simply says Acquiring Signal (or possibly Acquiring Satellite)
We have left it like this over a 30 minute drive out, and a 30 minute drive back.. (break in the middle at the destination!) Never do we get anything other than that message...

From time to time the radio reports "Updating Channels" again, I don't know if it ever complete as we return to the NAV screen.
The text info display seems to remain on "Updating" when I do this, but I've lost sufficient interest at this point to never bother going back to the SAT screen or keep an eye on the info display (where AC info is displayed for example)...

Sirius customer service are about as much use as a water-proof tea bag!

I've never had sat radio or anything like that, as I only JUST emigrated to Socal from the UK.

Cheers
Rob

Hi Rob,

Welcome to the States!

I haven't even tried out the Sirius option. I just bought our 2012 GT. I'll try it tonight to see if I get the same results.

Looking for the best deal for Sirius renewal

My 4 month free subscription is up next week. Sirius has been calling--they have either a $29 6-month subscription, which then automatically renews for additional 6-month periods for $84 -OR- they have a 1-year subscription for $95. My salesman told me to push them to the end of the free trial to get the best deal. Anyone seen better deals out there?

Thanks.

Search this forum. There is an 800# posted. Call them and tell them you want the latest special offer. Think i paid around $75 for a year subscription in Feb. Good luck

Sirius / XM customer service is the worst I have ever seen but that is another story.
Be careful when you actually decide to renew your subscription as they have been know to cut peoples subscription short, charge more than they should, in general mess up the billing and not take responsibility in their issues. A few searches on billing issues and Sirius / XM should give you a few stories to read, and I have felt their billing issues myself and that is why I do not have a subscription on any of my radios right now. I did not even activate the 4 month free offer as to me it is a waste of time to do. Loved the concept but their biz practices leave a lot to be desired.

Any I would take the vehicle to the Dealer and let them deal with it, you have done what you could by activating the radio and if it is not accepting the activation then there is a hardware problem. Only other issue could be that you gave them the wrong ID over the phone or online. If you have not done so go online to their website and setup your online account so that you can see what ID(s). You can also call the toll free number and send the activation signal again to the radio. Just gotta make sure the radio is on for the time you send the signal. I know a few times when I had to have the signal sent it took a couple of times for it to happen.
If the radio continues to not activate then it sounds more like a hardware issue that will need attention from the Mazda Service dept and a possiblity of having the radio removed and replaced or at least if it is just a module then that would need to be replaced with a new and and activated.
Be careful they (XM) may want to balk at giving you four months free on the new unit.

I've had nothing but good experiences with Sirius. I've had an account for over 5 years with 3 different vehicles. I had about 6 months left on an existing account with my '06 Passat when I traded and acquired the CX. They transferred my remaining 6 months over, matched it with another 6 months free and gave me 12 months free trial for the CX. All in 1 phone call and 15 minutes time. I wish Dell was that good!
