2010 World Car of the Year Awards

Got across this bit of news in the morning... Apparently the Mazda3 is among the Nominees for World Car of the Year and World Car Design of the Year!

Congrats to all of us, and cross your fingers!! Winners are going to be announced until March at the NYIAS...

That would be a nice bonus for Mazda. I know the Mazda 2 was awarded the price a few years ago.

If it's anything like every other review i've seen of the 2010 MS3 against the rivals, the GTI will beat it with this to say about it;

"While the MS3 was more powerful, agile, faster and fun to drive for a cheaper price, we chose the GTI over it because it had nice plaid seats and got 35MPG. It was a tough choice though."

That pretty much sums up every comparison i've seen in Car and Driver, Road&Track and Motor Trend on the 2010 MS3.

I wonder if Mazda's new SKY-G & SKY-D engines that are designed to meet & exceed future MPG standards will come in "MAZDASPEED" flavor as well...Keep in mind, VW has had decades to fine tune the GTI....Mazda has only had 2 generations of development time and the MS3 has already surpassed the GTI in several areas...Imagine after gen 3 and 4, what sort of super star the MS3 will be at that point...Can't wait to see! (first)

that's a very good point too. With the DISI 2.3L Turbo only on it's second inclination, one could only imagine how much further up they could go with this design.

WCY is a joke... the *only* segment that has any worthy contestants is the performance category, the rest are a load of fallacy.

I mean really, they go on and on in article after article on the ******* plaid seats! I think they are fugly. The car still doesn't have lsd either.

Well it's obvious after looking at it's performance stats that the GTI isn't even in the same performance catagory as the MS3. The omission of an LSD doesn't exactly shock me.

I agree, you would need to compare the GTI R20 to a MS3. That being said, the 2.0L turbo in the GTI is a far superior tuner's engine compared the 2.3 MZR. A simple flash and those things will embarrass most sports cars.
