2010 MS3 oil change info

I'm still confused. I put 6 quarts in the first day, that's what it took to get it to the full mark. The next day I checked and it was overfilled. I drained out some oil, enough to where I got it to the full mark. Next morning I checked and it was at about 2/3 full. Drove to work, then home. Let it sit for an hour. Checked the oil...just a touch OVER the full mark.

I've never had a car be this retarded about oil capacity.

What engine do you guys have ? I just changed my 2009 Mazda 6 with a 2.5 L engine, the manual says 5.3 quarts, but 5 quarts fill it up to the full mark.

Also, on my 2010 Mazda3, with the 2.0 L engine, the manual says 4.5 quarts, and it seems a tad below the full mark. Can the manual be losing something in the transition from liters to quarts

like nathan said, capacity is 6 quarts. you're never getting all 6 quarts out, so you won't be putting all six quarts back in.

and you're treating the dipstick like the hand of God. it's a rough estimate at best, and is dependent on so many factors.

-is your car 100% level?
-what's the true capacity of your filter?
-what temp is the oil at?
-what viscosity oil?

take out your drain plug and filter and get as much of the old oil out as you can in a REASONABLE amount of time (4 hours? wish i had that kind of time). fill it with about 5.5 quarts, run it, kill it, check it again after a while. probably add a little. done.

sill unsure? check it when you buy gas.

(but wait - i went for gas when the gauge said 'empty' and the miles remaining said '0' - but when i filled the tank it only took 15.25 gallons, and i know the capacity is 16 per the manual, and... and...)

What engine are you talking about, the 2.0L or the 2.5L ? It does make a difference as too how much oil you put it....If you are saying 6 quarts and you have a 2.5L, some poor slob with a 2.0L will over fill his engine. When giving out information , be specific as to what engine you are talking about. Not all Mazda's are created equal.

what kind of synthetic oils are you guys using? i started running amsoil in my cars.. noticeable difference compared to stuff like mobil 1 (not 100% synth even though its called fully synthetic)

can any body help me get some filters for my speed 3 2010 !!

I went to the dealership and asked the parts department and the service department and they both said that the regular 3 and the Speed 3 uses the same oil filters. If that's the case then the K&N filter is the HP1002.
