They are underrating all of the 2010's, it seems. 283hp and 317ft-lb sounds good to me. Even the 2.5L in the 3s is underrated by 10-12hp.
I'm not really sure. They seem to think the 1st gen motor is underrated too:Thanks for posting this info!
Is this magazine repected by most tuners and professionals in the field?
The on-line article didn't mention underrating of hp; was this stated in the actual magazine?
Yeah, I saw that too. Those numbers are accurate. The 2010 is about 3 inches longer, but has the same wheelbase. I believe they did that to move the muffler behind the rear axle for the dual exhaust. The bigger tank may be occupying some of the space where the muffler was located previously. I'll have to crawl under my car and look.Anyone else notice according to that article they upped the gas tank from 14.5 to 15.9 gallons and tires from 215/45 to 225/40s?
We have dynoed the 2010 Mazdaspeed 3. 244 whp on a Dynojet, we did it this morning.
Thanks for the info. I think DSport was using some kind of weird formula to calculate the crank HP, which resulted in those numbers. I think they need to re-evaluate what they're doing because it's obviously flawed. +20 and +30 is a little too good to be true from the exact same motor. Plus, it doesn't make sense when test drives show it puts down about the same numbers. We have dynoed the 2010 Mazdaspeed 3. 244 whp on a Dynojet, we did it this morning.

I know that the 2.5L is probably underrated by about 10hp from Corksport's dyno results, but I don't think they've dyno'd their 2010 MS3 yet.
It appears the '10 and first generation ms3 have the same whp. I was hoping the hood scoop might make some difference.
I wonder if the taller gearing makes better 0-60 and 1/4 mile numbers and
less shifting in everyday driving.
