Most iPhone owners realize that Apple went to USB pinouts on the dock connector for the iPhone 3G/3GS. The original iPhone had a Firewire pinout arrangement. What this meant for most iPod connector kits for auto's was that you could play your music via any of the models of iPhone out there, but unless you had a USB dock connector, you couldn't charge the 3G/3GS. There are some adapters out there that convert USB to Firewire...Scorsche sells one.
But I just got the iPod integration kit installed on my new 2010 CX9. I have the Navi/Bose/Sirius/BT rig. Unless you also purchase their splitter/switch box, you'll lose your Aux port that is in your console. If you buy that splitter/switch kit you can keep it.
What is more important, however, is that the cable _IS_ compatible with the 3G/3GS for charging the phone while also giving you full dock integration with the Navi screen. You get complete control over your iPhone iPod app, with full display of playlists, etc.....but it also charges the device at the same time.
Maybe this is old news to others, but I found the web links I've seen here indicating that the iPod integration kit wasn't compatible with iPhone 3G/3GS units. It totally is.
Just thought I'd pass this along as I couldn't find a straight answer, even from the dealership.
