2008 Turbo lag?

Hi All,

I am interested in the CX-7 and heard plenty regarding the low end lag from the 07 models. I assume it's still present in the 08's? Do you get use to it?

Thanks, Gerry

I know its there in mine, but its nothing too dramatic. Perhaps its been toned down since the 07 came out.

The 07 have very little turbo lag. Initial first build models had some issues that were addressed with a ECU software upgrade. My 07 displays so little lag that I don't even feel it. Car & Driver also commented that turbo lag was almost non-existant in their testing of a 2007.

Yeah, its really a non issue, if you start modding with little up grades like a BPV and Intake, you would think the turbo has dual scrolls or twin turbo's because of the lagless response.

?

Sorry to seem a little confused but what is a BPV and where would I go to read up on them and/or purchase. Also where can I go to find performance equiptment for my 2007 Cx-7.

I don't mean to knit-pick, but I assume you mean sequential turbos rather than twin turbos, right? Only asking because having twin turbo or single turbo really is a non-issue as far as spool up time. Again, not trying to knit-pick, just trying to clarify for the initial question at hand.

BPV=By-pass Valve, which recirculates excess pressure from the intake tube before throttle body(typically into intake plenum) so that when the throttle blade shuts, excess pressure from the turbo doesn't bounce off the throttle blad back towards the turbo compressor wheel(s), which can cause damage to the turbo, both physically and functionally. As for your other questions, I've found A LOT of my CX-7 questions by using the Search button at the top of the page.

Oh jesus h christ.

Drive it before you buy it so you don't come back and complain about it like others on here. It is a turbo-4 so it's going to have some kind of lag but its not noticable 85%-95% of the time unless you're the type of person that just stands on the accelerator at every light, stop sign or street crossing.

Yes thats what I meant, After a few upgrades and the latest reflashes, turbo spool up is really almost a non issue.

yea, dont be like me...

I have owned 2 other drive-by-wire cars and the lag from those was nothing compared to...

I would agree. The TSB certainly helps and makes a difference, but whether its the drive by wire, turbo lag, or combo of both, something isnt quite right when the 7 gets rolling from a stop. Ive had many cars with "drive by wire" with absolutely no characteristics that the 7 has

Really!?? Is it a new TSB, or what? Do you have to request them do it, or will they only do it if you are taking it in for other services??

Thanks,
Nick

They are suppose to check for it when you go in and mention it, there is no TSB for it and it seems all the dealers don't have it yet but seems there is one that has recently came out.

Good deal, and thanks for the info. I'll have to check a local Mazda dealership here, as I recently moved to the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, and don't really know where the "respectable" dealership is here.

Thanks again!

in ur other post, you said there was a reflash that eliminated lag. can you elaborate further or was this just a dealer telling you there was a flash? im interested in seeing what they have done on top of the hesitation & tranny tsb's.

if in fact mazda has finally fixed it, thats great. took over a year tho :(
