i still like the current-gen look better. without the non-functional hood scoops. i dunno what the big deal is, the car may look plain, but i think thats part of the appeal. pretty utilitarian & like james may said, "you cant go faster for less." pontiac did have a pretty good season in GT.
unfortunately theres not much appeal in the lineup of american cars for me. car manufacturers are too afraid to tap into other markets and try something new. sure & safe is how they play the game. look at BMW, their bold new styling was practically unseen when the latest 7-series came out, but with complaint after complaint, their current offerings are watered down designs with the hope that they wont drive away any talking wallets. how many times does chevy, ford, chrysler, etc. have to take out the tracing paper, and even to a lesser extent--honda, toyota, & mazda? you cant say that the mazda3, mazda6, mpv have similar looking front fascias. and the new civic is stylisticaly different than its previous generations or any car in its class, but its curves & sheet metal just slightly mimic that of my mom's accord. the GTO is at least a no-nonsense, fishtail monster with more torque than it knows what to do with type of car. all the thrills were under the hood and they left the designers to eat roasted bat in the outback yearning for more garlic.
