2008 Mazda 3 auto trans issue (shifting problem)

Hey Guys, I have a 2008 Mazda 3 with a auto trans that also has the "Semi-auto shifting feature". The issue I am having is when I switch it to "manual" and try to down shift the trans stays in the same gear. When I up shift, the trans works fine. My guess is there is a broken connection near the shifter so I am planning on ripping it apart to see what I can find. However, before doing that, I wanted to see if anyone else has the auto trans and if anyone else had\is having the same problem. Any advice is helpful.
