2008 Chevrolet Cobalt SS Faces Four Forced-Induction Fours and a High-RPM Honda

they are so close in performance, the drivers skills (lack thereof) will determine which is quicker. Besides, these are all street cars. With performance numbers so close, why not get the car that you like the most.......

I don't know about you, but everytime I make a payment, I am NOT thinking about how to shave a tenth of the 1/4 times.....

Competition is fun.

And no I'm not thinking about shaving a tenth off my 1/4 every time I make my car payment lol! My opening comment was just to get people into the discussion, not really trying to start a pissing match about which car is faster, etc. I mean the article talks about the hottest sport compacts on the market and gives a little bit of info on each car. Thought it was interesting is all. Plus I think theres been a common misconception on the Speed3s attainable 0-60 and times, thought maybe this might clear some things up.

I just get bored of the fan boy justifications of a particular brand/make of car.

Every single care made is an amalgam of compromises meant to satisfy the masses. EVERY car has weak points, and 100% of them are certainly not the awesome, perfect car that you have to get... Car companies are masters at extracting maximum $ from you for their minimum of effort. Why else are cars still sold with laughable MSRP posted on the window? It's a suckers game thats why.

If you want a real eye opener, add up what you spend on your car in a given year. Payments, tags, license, gas, oil, maintenance, car wash supplies, add ons and mods, insurance etc... The total percentage of your annual income going to the car is shocking, Just imagine what you do with that money spent in other ways in your life.

Wow man! I didn't mean for this to get so deep :( I'm sorry you feel that way, it's depressing (how much is spent on the car yearly) Some of us like to compete and compare cars. I didn't realize it was such a bad thing to do. I mean if it really bothers you there are many other threads in the forum. Not all of us have the same opinion, views or whatever but the "fan boy" name calling crap isn't necessary. I really don’t understand it, you know I support the MS3 obviously but I’ve in no way indicated and or suggested it was the best thing out since sliced bread, etc. Yes, if member post information about it (MS3) and it’s not true I’ll defend it but how does that make me a “fan boy”? I thought it would have been clear by now that I don’t think the MS3 is the best thing ever. Guess I was wrong, either way it’s getting annoying. This forum is starting to = FAIL. Seems like every time I make a thread a flame fiesta develops

you have posted a lot of stuff out there about the cobalt ss... I liked them when i owned a Z24 Cavalier, but having since moved on and on, The cobalt SS is an ugly looking car and yes it is much slower. Do you dwell on the Cobalt SS or did you once own one?

first off, I never called out anyone in particular. Just stated how I feel. There are a lot of different choices out there, and they are not all neatly lined up in a wins/losses style of catalog. Perhaps your misinterpreting things a bit. Yes I like the speed 3, yes I own one. No, I don't think it's the fastest thing since tokyo drift. Also, the general reception you get might be a good opportunity to consider how you interact with others. 1 person giving you a hard time is nothing, 2 or 3 becomes troublesome. But when you perceive an entire forum as out to get you, perhaps there is something to what they are saying?

The reason I responded the way I did? This same or similar threads have consistently been trampled through, and completely played out to the point of them becoming locked. Only to pop up again in some incantation or another. It gets annoying after a while.

ps. grow some thicker skin, all this beating around the bush is tiring. You are local to me, and I have met you in person. IRL your a much nicer person. Figure out why that changes behind a keyboard and your well on your way towards being more well rounded and personable while online.

Well this is interesting because everyone and their mothers jumped the gun saying how much faster the Cobalt SS will be.

Yeah this is just one mag and they are close enough in performance that the driver will make the difference, but still interesting nonetheless.

Unfortunately for this thread, I smell the dumpster only because it will probably end up becoming heated. I hope not.

The cobalt will remain a good choice for the domestic brand folks. It's certainly shaping up to be far superior to the srt4. I am still not sure what Dodge was thinking with that one.

There is an upside to all these different sport compacts on the market now, each new generation of car gets better and better. Each time one is released the bar gets raised in one way or another. This is good for everyone :)

The only way to know for sure what you like is to try them all, and thats a LOT of fun. If only the sales people were a little easier to deal with it would make the experience better.

Neither! Geez man I thought it was an interesting article is all. There was one (1) thread about it and we had a little discussion and some were saying things like "The king as been dethroned!" and that type of thing. So my argument was that it's a little too soon to say that and that there are more things to consider than what one or a couple mag entities suggested about it. I do give it credit but I don't thinks it's all that. Doesn’t mean I’m right doesn’t mean I’m wrong. It’s all a matter of opinion but if we're going to talk #'s lets at least be fair and post #'s which have been attained before because this is what the car is truly capable of in the hands of a decent driver. For example, to say the MS3's best 1/4 time is 14.4 and 0-60 5.8 is simply incorrect as better #'s have been and or can be achieved.
So if we are going to have a #’s battle lets post the best #’s for each car and not pick and choose which one’s we want because we might be biased or something.

Well I apologize and I see where you're coming from now. However, you have to understand where I'm coming from as well. I mean really, most of the time I'm just stating my opinion and a member just comes out of no where and flames me for something trivial. Sorry if I came across as an ass which apparently I did. No hard feelings! - I'm about (1) key stroke away from being banned anyway so you probably wont need to worry about me anymore regardless.

I am eligible for GM employee pricing, and tried, keyword tried to get into the cobalt coupe & sedans. Not happening :)

Keep that in mind if your a larger person. Same holds true for the subies as well. I could easily afford any of them, including the sti and evo. The mazdaspeed 3 was the car I fit in comfortably. Also as long as I am handing out info like I am some sort of expert (sic) maybe if I could manage to loose a few pounds I wouldn't need a shoehorn to get out of a 2 seater convertible LMAO...... But then again, when your 6'4" tall and big boned, even if you loose weight your not fitting in several of these cars.

I agree with you on the comfortable fit. I'm not crazy tall, 6', but I am big boned as you say and I've got room to spare in the MS3. The little beastie even fits my fedora when I choose to sport it. :-)

6'3" and I ended up sold on the Mazda3 and then the Mazdaspeed3 primarily because I fit in it. My '07 Mazda3 Sport (5 door to you yanks) GT has a moon roof and my hair kisses the roof, so it can be a close fit, too. I'll never drive an S2000 or a Porsche (probably), but this car fits me well.

That said, I'm going to be spoiled by this car. When I got to replace it, how am I ever going to be able to step down in terms of power, handling, precision, utility and... well, frankly, fit.

I drove my mom's Cobalt for a year, and it was hell. I fit, awkwardly, and I hated it.

We should enjoy the speed 3 for now, who knows for certain what mazda and the mazdaspeed team will have up their sleeves for the next sporty and quick compact from the flying M brand :)

Because if they don't, another carmaker will......

kind of a half as comparo when they haven't even driven the Ralliart. They're just magazine racing. No lap times or real driving impressions.
