2007 sti? opinions

ok so some kid around my town drives an 2007 sti and met up with me over the weekend at a small party i was at. we end up talking about cars and he wanted to take me for a drive. now all he has done is a down pipe and thats it...so he drove the car first and it pinned me to the seat like crazy...so then i drove it...the car felt like it had way more torque then my mazdaspeed 6.so then after he wanted me to race him..i had to decline at the time cause i just had my windshield shattered from a rock( which is being replaced today with new tires) and in my opinion i think the kid is too damn reckless with his car lol. now in my opinion who's car do you think would be faster...his or mine? just looking for peoples opinions ..his car he said is 305 hp out of the box

lol yeah they are quick cars. The speed 6 though is a nice car in it's own right too. You seem to have a decent start on catching up to him though! I think a good tuning solution is in order...

i was thinking the cobb ap...or just even a boost controller and a adjustable map clamp from mpg to hold 17 lbs of boost safetly...but idk

idk ive raced 1 before (not street racing) and only got pulled by a 3/4th of a car but i mean i only have a intake lol for power mods...i think he had a sri and a down pipe so and stock for stock they have 26 more hp and 20 more trq
a friend of mine with a srt-4 ***** 2-3 sti's...and he only has a downpipe/intake/wastegate stupid srt4s

with that AP set to your mods you'd rip him. 305 at the engine, not the wheels.

here's the thing... the 2007 sti has a very sensitive ecu and is known to have failures by running "just a downpipe" without a tune... you may want to tell your friend to invest in a tune asap. I am very serious. It does not work well with the ecu in stock form and will cause the car to run as lean as 14:1 under full boost. Especially if he has a blow off valve and other mods. With a subaru, any major modifications that mess with the stock tune REQUIRE tuning for not only max power but the safety of the motor.

the 07 model was the first year they introduced the air pump system into the ecu due to more strict regulations on emissions. their have been numerious sti's made in 07 that have blown up due to detonation. The stock pistons hate it and are sensitive.

btw, the sti is a 2.5 ltr so it naturally will have more torque due to displacement... it also has a short first and second gear so it "feels" more preppy. But keep in mind, when he is shifting, you are still in your powerband.

as a previous sti owner, switching to an ms6, this is one of the weak points of the subaru... gearing that is waaaay too close. the 07 is a bit longer but is still short for the most part.

an 07 sti with just a downpipe is a 250whp car
