2007 RX-8 Sirrius Installation Question

Hello,

I am new here and would like to say hello and ask a question. I have a 2007 RX-8 which I purchased new. I had the dealer install the iPod kit from Mazda at the time I purchased it. I would like to install a Sirrius radio (it is a small add on - not an in dash unit). Does anyone have a suggestion on how to best do this?

I asked the dealer and it was like $200. I tried buying a cable with a female iPod connector and an aux plug to go into the Sirrius. It works for about 20-30 secs. and then the radio shuts off. Apparently since the Sirrius isn't sending data back to the radio the way the iPod does, it doesn't see the radio and shuts off.

Is there another plug in the radio for an aux cable? It really bugs me to spend $200 for the dealer to do this. I am somewhat handy but I don't want to mess the radio or the dash up trying to install it.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I bought the Mazda because I wanted a rotary engine. I love the car but they don't make it easy for us non-dealer folks to do things.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you can offer,

Welcome to the Forum. I don't have an answer for you directly. When I was looking at Ipod intergration solutions for my 8 I dismissed the Mazda option because it didn't give me enough control of hte Ipod for my taste. IIRC the songs are only displayed by number from 1 to how ever many songs you have loaded. I wanted the same amount of control that you get with the Ipod in your hand, while being able to put the Ipod out of site. Sorry my description is not great. Anyhow, I ended up installing the harmon Kardon Drive+play V1. It was not that expensive, around 200 with install. the benifit of the set up I went with was getting full control and putting my Ipod in the glove box. The only downside for my solution is the sound quality is slightly less than the OEM option. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions.

BTW....200 installed sounds like a fair price. Be carefull if you take your 8 to an aftermarket install shop because there is one bolt that is hard to find and many people have had their LCD screen damaged due to install shops not pulling the bolt and then trying to force the dash apart.
