2007 mazda cx7 GT
about a month or so ago i noticed i had white smoke coming from the rear as i was driving off from my car sitting all day and i wasn't sure what it was, so i took it to the dealer and they did a tsb that they new about this particular problem, however, i haven't noticed the white smoke come back, and i hope it doesn't come back but now i'm due for a oil change do i take it back to the dealer for them to do a free oil change from what i hear? or am i suppose to be responsible for the oil change? now the other question is: can i continue using synthetic in there? I was using coventional oil but now that there is synthetic in there can i continue using sythetic? if so, whic one do i use ? mobil 1 5 30? or mobil 1 5 40? i know they used a heavy weight but i figure that synthetic is only better for the turbo and never used it before....please help me asap as i am due for service today!!

If you were not offered a courtesy free oil change then you pay. The factory recommended oil is 5w30. Your owners manual is a good read concerning maintenance and fluild requirements

i have an ms3, but its the same motor/problem. my dealer filled me with castrol 5w40 and told me to continue using that from now on instead of 5w30. mobil 1 has a new formula that is supposedly a lower quality oil. if your dealer told you they cover oil changes, then go to them, but be sure you have it in writing

I'd like to see a factory recomendation to change to a 5w40 oil. I emailed Mazda last year and was email back that 5w30 was the prefered oil for the CX7 turbo.

its part of the tsb for the repair procedure

let the car idle, see if it smokes, take pics
if it smokes swap to 5w40, run the car at 3k for 2 minutes to clear out any residual oil
let idle for 10 minutes, if it doesnt smoke ur done, if it does take pics
pics get sent to MNAO, they authorize turbo replacement

I understand it is for evauation turbo seal testing and not a recomendation to run 5w40 as the normal wt.

Smoking Turbo's

I had this issue on my 07 and just had the turbo replaced by Mazda in March. Old one would smoke like a pig if you let the car idle for an excessive period. Make sure you have ALL your maintenance records

i was under the impression that the TSB to switch to 5w40 is supposed to include a notice to the owner to use 5w40 going forward. it doesn't really fix the problem (leaky turbo seals) but it helps to let less oil by.

So, is synthetic OK to use in the turbo CX-7 or not? I've been using Mobil 1 since the first oil change. I now have 16K on the car.

YES. The factory says Synthetic oil is ok provided it meets viscosity & grade.
