2007 Mazda 3 Clutch clicking noise

My brand new 07 Mazda 3 has a slight clicking noise when the clutch is released/pressed in.

I don't think it's the switch that shuts off the ignition if the clutch is not pressed in fully when starting....seems more like it's something internal.

Is this normal? Does it indicate problems down the road?

Can you recreate this noise all the time or is it intermittent?
I would suggest taking it to the dealer and letting them have a look at it.

Congrats on the new 3 by the way.

The noise is every single time I press the clutch, engine on or off.

It's sort of like a gentle click, maybe more of a squeak. As I release the clutch or press it in slowly.

Any ideas?

I can't offer any ideas, but I just noticed this happening in my '06 3 Sport. I hear it when shift from 1st - 2nd and from 2nd to 3rd.

The Mazda6 had a TSB for a squeaky brake pedal...all it was, was a flush and refill. As the fluid deteriorated, the seals became squeaky. With fresh fluid it goes away. Kinda makes me wonder why Mazda put crap in there to begin with...or maybe it's a crappy seal material...I have this issue on our 6, haven't got around to changing the fluid yet (full brake upgrade is on the way, so i was waiting) but it bugs the hell out of me.

Just throwing it out there, but if it's a squeak, there may a slight possiblity of the fluid not liking the seal...or the seal not liking the fluid.

(i know you said clutch...this is just a possible reach at the problem)

if its a click not a squeak it could be realated to electronics... is it loud or very quiet if you can track it to the under side of the glove box where one of the comps is i wouldn't worry about it its just a contact clicking on and off as we don't have a cable clutch...

I am only noticing it as the mornings get a little cooler. This morning, as Tsunami can probably attest to, it was 51 when I left my house, and I didn't hear it today. However, Monday when it was 29 and I had to scrape my windows to get going, I heard it...

I hear it coming from around the clutch pedal, so I wonder if one of the pivot points has a lubricant that does not agree with cooler temps...

I am going to keep listening for it to see if, when the interior comes up to temp after a cold start, the sound goes away.

In fact I noticed the exact same noise last winter, and asked the dealer about it. They claimed that it was, as you mentioned in the original post, the ignition-abling switch. Any reason why you thought that wasn't it?

I had that noise last winter, and it went away as the weather warmed up. Our car has zero problem. I guess it will come back pretty soon though.

damn it is cold up there huh. hasnt been that cold here yet. 35 at the lowest.

So I've got an update: I took it yesterday to two separate Mazda dealers who got their technicians to sit in it and both said it was normal.

They said it's the springs inside that are working when the pedal is pushed in/released, but that it is normal.

I guess it's just a characteristic of this car. .

Perhaps it'll go away as the car is broken-in more. It only has 1,300 miles on it

Other than that....man, I love this car.....most definitely a cheap BMW, exactly what I was looking for!!!!!!

I'll probably keep it till the wheels fall off.

Thanks so much guys!!

P.S...I don't think it's the ignition disconect switches that the clutch pedal contacts because when I got under there and pushed the switches by hand it didn't seem to make that noise. It felt more like the noise was internal coming from behind the firewall.

I am not all worried about it anyway. I really enjoy this car and if the is the worst thing that is going to happen to it, then I think I can find a way to live with it.

Any updates?

Sorry this thread seems to be old, but I wondered if this happened to anyone else?

I am having what I think is a similar clicking sound with my clutch. It is 4-6 clicks as the pedal gets pushed towards the bottom. When it clicks, the pedal sort of sticks, or is notchy. I have isolated the clicking to the engine compartment, in the front center under the hood. I can't seem to get at any moving parts though, to see if something is catching somewhere.

Car will go to the dealer this week, but what a pain.

I have a 2008 Mazda3 with 17.5k miles.

Any thoughts?
