Yeah 4-doores in nice. I have a couple of questions before I sign up for one:

Why the fake grillwork surrounding the fog lights? The MkIV Golf had an available aftermarket front end that had three large lower openings a la the Porsche 996 Turbo.

No other body modifications. The front chin and rear airdam area need to be more aggressive on a 300HP car.

Also, no mention of an LSD. One was not standard on the MkIV GTI, but I'm not sure about the MkV.

The thing weighs a ton. 3,300lbs, actually. There is a lot of that weight on the front axle, too...about 1958lbs! While the handling is sure to be nice for driving around town, its certainly will not be up to Mazdaspeed Protege standards. The drop on the Sportec version is perfect, but unless it has coilovers, its not going to be able to keep up.

On the plus side? The MkIV could take almost all Audi parts for the same (1.8t) engine, the suspension, and the brake. It could also take some Porsche parts (wheels and brakes), too. This makes for a heavily supported aftermarket parts...market.

Unfortunatly, I think the chassis will never be right for tuning.

Wow... man, that car may be in my near future.

Love the wheels... anywone know who makes them?

Sportec is not a factory or dealer option. They are an independent tuner. Plus they are not located in, nor do they have any dealers listed for, the United States. Basically, you can't have one. And if you imported it, you wouldn't be able to drive it on the street.

Besides, the parts are Swiss made for a German car which means it will cost 4X what it should!

from what i've heard, the chassis is light-years ahead of the old one, esp w/ the multilink rear suspension. it's heavy, but there are few light cars anymore.

those are some nice looking wheels...car looks hot as well...well done VW

Hell yeah! the more I look at this car... the more I like it. does anyone know if we're gonna get this? 4 door gti that is....

The DIT MS3 eclipses the new GTI and it's powerplant (even this tuned version)...After what Mazda will offer in the MS3...I'm not at all impressed with the GTI.

Clearly the MS3 has the edge in power. From what I've read/heard, this new GTI handles tremendously well and its interior is second to none. Let's also not forget about the DSG transmission. Even though I'd probably still prefer the manual, considering the fact that this DSG is almost on par (from the reviews I've read) with the system that is found in a Ferrari, that's a pretty nice option to have. While subjective, I think it has the MS3 in the looks dept. It's got a very clean, agressive look. Since wheels can make or break a car, I'm holding out final judgement until I see the NA version ofthe MS3. (hopefully they'll do away with this fugly snowflake wheels.)

Here's the bottom line... For those not quite as interested in having the fastest 0-60 time and are instead looking for a balance of a excellent handling, plenty of power with an interior on par with many luxury cars, the GTI is a solid choice. As of today, it has more than enough power to compete with its competition. (similar in many respects to when the MSP first came out.) But just like the SRT-4 waiting in the wings, the MS3 and Cal-SRT4 will soon make this respectable 200 hp powerplant look weak. Since all 3 cars will be priced roughly the same, it'll be interesting to see how things shape up.

yeah this car is hot. The MS3 powerplant is nice and the suspension is probably going to be superb, but it lkooks like ass. If i cant have the ms3 in sedan version then i would definitely jump on a 4 door GTI. That thing is hot!. Probably too expensive though.
im a going to be getting a Hi Boost for my 3, unless there is an irresistible deal for the GTI.
