2006 Mazda5 - how much should I pay?

Please bear with me, as this is my first post. We have been considering a Mazda5 for some time, and the time has come. I no longer wish to drive my 95 Crown Victoria, and with two kids, the flexibility of a Mazda5 really seems to fit the bill. We rented one last year when another car was in the shop, and it seemed to be a good fit for our family.

A Mazda dealer local to me has 9 2006 Mazda5s in stock (and a number of 2007s as well). How can I figure out how much to pay? It looks like most people are now buying '07s, and I suspect I could get a good deal, but I don't know how good. Ideally, it will be a Touring Automatic, no color preference. Anyone have any recent experiences? Anyone know of any incentives that are available (the Mazda dealer only knew of a lease incentive)?

Thanks in advance,

Caroline

Hi -

I purchased my 2006 Sport automatic about three weeks ago. It has almost all of the options as the Touring. (A/T, Moonroof, CD Changer, Side Sills, Fog Lights, Cargo Net, Wheel Locks.)

The car was on sale for $3,300 off MSRP. I also took advantage of the Mazda Credit financing for an additional $1,000 off.

$20,525 MSRP
$17,225 Sale Price
-$1,000 Mazda Credit
$16,225 Sale Price

You have to make at least 4 payments to Mazda Credit before you can pay it off. But if you make a large down payment, then the interest accrued is pretty small. It is more than a fair trade to get an additional $1,000 off.

So it was too good to pass up. Plus the warranty on the 2006 is better.

There are a few threads on prices paid on this form. Also check Edmunds.com.
