What do you guys think of the 2006 model, is there alot of problems? I heard about the squeaky struts problem. There's one for sale in my area for $11999 with 75000 km, also its manual. What do you guys think?

I think it is a little pricey. I bought an auto 06 GT for $14K including GST and PST with just a little over 100KM in June of this year. I am in Montreal, and don't know which region of Canada you are in but for $12K a GS should have less mileage and or auto transmission.

I'm in Winnipeg, I think I'll wait and see if anything else comes out for sell. How is your GT running, any problems?

FWIW, we just sold our '06 Sport manual with 37k miles for $9k USD. In cold weather, it had the noisy suspension issue, even after having the front control arm bushings replaced (for free pursuant to the TSB). The only other issues we had were the battery had to be replaced last winter (partial credit under warranty); the passenger sliding door lock intermittenly did not function; and the hatch started to crack over the hinges.

Our experience was so bad (yes, that's sarcasm) that we replaced it with an '08 Touring (5-speed, of course).

Regarding the squeaky suspension. The TSB as applied did work for many owners here in this forum.

I think it is safe to conclude that If the noise persisted despite the TSB, then
the TSB must have been done wrong. The TSB specifies the parts, the lubricant and the torque ratings.

It is the second winter of our 2006 GT with the bushing/lubrication TSB. We have deep freeze going down to the -30 celcius and colder. No suspension noise. Will it stay that way next winter? I intend to find out.

I am having the usual suspension problems. I have replaced the read sway bar bushings and reset the read spring that was causing knocking noise. The squeaky suspension seems to be temperature related, no squeaking with the recent above 0C temperature.

Other problem is my rear driver side lock not unlocking with the remote. However, there is some good news, on my recent trip to Toronto I got 8.04L/100KM (29.25 US MPG) in slushy weather and 7.4L/100KM (31.8 US MPG) on the way back on dry and bear road. That was a really good surprise.

Definitely room to talk down the price but the price is pretty good, the lowest priced 5 in Vancouver area right now is $13,900. Not a single manual available now, for good reason. I ain't giving my up, of course except to upgrade to a future 7 seater model with manual. :) Mazda 5 or Ford C-Max.

The pickings on 5's are pretty slim in Winnipeg. Most of them show up around $15K. There was an '06 GT with ~85K on it that showed up in South Winnipeg a few months back that was being sold for $12K. I didn't get a chance to take a look at it. Most of the used dealers in Winnipeg have no idea what they're talking about when it comes to the 5 (This includes the two Mazda dealerships)
The number of times I've seen a GT listed as a GS and vice versa is pretty high.
Look closely at the vehicle. If the vehicle has fogs, a rear spoiler and a sunroof it's a GT, not a GS no matter what the listing may say.
Speaking of the suspension TSB, is there an easy way to determine if my vehicle is covered? My '06 is over 3 years old and I've got the squeak.

I have seen a 5speed sport in the Oregon area if you want to travel... $9k

5 speeds are tough to find! I have thought about switching to one...

You can have my 06 Touring for $10k! (boom05)

I have taken great care of my baby, and it is sitting at 89,333 miles.

I had thought about trading in in an a MazdaSpeed3, but I would probably only get $5k for it.

Zack Spencer and Lacy Elliot have a Canadian TV show/web site called Driving Television that has an excellent vehicle search engine on the web. We found our 5 through their site and there were 25-30 5's listed (new and used) in B.C. This was mid-July of 2009.

Now I found a 2006 M5 GT for 12988 with 60000km. I think I will go look at this weekend. Its manual and thats what I like. Anything I should be looking for when I take it out for a drive.

Suspension, unusual tire wear, and other normal stuff you'd look for in a used car. I'm guessing it's no longer under warranty.

HI Rocco, besides the usually M5 problems you should check for used car problems. Open the hood and the hatch area, make sure the car has not been in a major accident. Look for paint over spray and in some cases crumbled structural metal that has been hammered out.

Check all the lights to make sure they are working and during the test drive check to see if the car is tracking straight during normal driving, accelerating and braking.

Good luck.

Just somethings to watch out for, Rocco.
Besides the suspension noise, be sure that the car has fully functioning locks and inside handles on the cargo doors. Both are known to go bad - mine did, and with the Canadian cars only having the 3 year warranty not the 4 year warranty the US cars had (am I correct, Canadian 5-ers?), the probs may not have shown up w/i the warranty period, and therefore not been addressed. Also be aware of probs with the A/C unit, although I can't see you testing it out in January up there :) The other one is the body-color panel that sits atop the tailgate above the 3rd brake light. The bulgey humps over the hinges often crack on 06-07 models. With all the temperature variations going on this winter, if it was going to go, I bet it has. Thing is, the entire tailgate needs to be replaced, and it comes unpainted. So you need to paint it, install glass, and order new emblems, as they will break coming off, and there are holes in the body where they go, so unless you Bondo the holes before painting, the emblems must be applied. I will say that I have had almost every 06 5MT issue in the book, but thanks to free work, the car is still almost factory fresh. All of my issues are found somewhere in this forum - you can probably search by my name & find the threads if you must. If ANY of the defects are present, start walking, and don't turn around unless they start dropping the price in 4-digit increments.

Thanks, I will certainly look at the hinges and listen for suspension noise.

I went to check out a 2007 M5 GT today with 48000km. It rode great, everything worked great. I popped the hood and checked out the ATF and it was black and smelled burnt. It also shifted alittle rough. Any Ideas? Their asking 13900. Also does anyone have access to carfax reports . They have a 2006 gs with 75000km, but its manual. The vin is JM1cr293170139110. Thanks in advance

pardon my ignorance, but what is the TSB? I have just purchased my 06 Mazda 5 with 74k miles on it, and of course, I have the dreaded suspension noise. Had the local Mazda dealership check it out, and said the LH control rod and bushings were bad. Really pissing me off at the moment, as the car shouldn't have these problems at such low miles, but looks like they are known for it at even lower mileage! I'm not happy!(deadhorse

anyone wanna buy this thang?
