06 mazda3
We recently had our 2006 mazda3 inspected because of a long trip coming up and we had the oil and transmission fluid changed. For the rest of the day the car was fine, but the next morning when I went out to start it up.. it would not start, no clicking sound no nothing. After about 6 attempts it started up like nothing was wrong. So we assumed the might not of been fully engaged into park or something. We started to make our trip and about 2 hours in we stop for breakfast and when we went outside the car wouldn't start. Again no clicking no nothing.. after about 5-6 tries it started.

We are assuming its possibly the starter, especially after seeing the mazda bulliten about the connection becoming corroded. My question is where exactly is the starter on an 06 2.3L mazda3? Could the connection have been corroded and when they changed the transmission/oil fluids they knocked it even more out of whack? '

Well here is the fix to your problem. Its not your starter thats going bad it is the trans range switch. next time the car doesnt want to start put the car in N and i bet it will start. You can also check this by putting the key in the start position does the P light up. The reason why the car wont start is because of the corrosion surrounding the switch builds up with rust and dirt and sticks. Which wont allow the PCM see that the car is in P.

Hope this answered your question.

did you even read the TSB?

there's also another TSB.... 05-012/08 that addresses the trans range switch problem
ENGINE WILL NOT START IN P-RANGE INTERMITTENTLY

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2004-2008 Mazda3 vehicles with VINs lower than JM1BK**** ** 848579 (produced before November 1, 2007)
DESCRIPTION
On some vehicles, the shift position lamp in the instrument cluster does not come on in the P position, and the
engine does not start. However, the engine can be started in the N position. This is due to rust on the connecting
point of the shift cable and lock cable lever causing the select lever not to move to the location where it is
recognized as P range. There is no issue about the transmission reaching Park. This is only an issue about
the confirming P indicator in the instrument cluster. A slit on the mud guard has been removed to prevent salt
water from getting to the location where rust would occur.

EITHER TSB could apply to this problem
