2005 Mazda3 SP23 Engine Problem

I'm wondering if anyone can help.....I am in Australia and have a 2005 Mazda3 SP23 with 45800 kms....today while driving the engine stalled and the car stopped....it restarted easily enough and i was able to get home but it continued to feel as if it would stall again....and it is also making an awful knocking sound from the engine area.

Any thoughts, suggestions, etc?? (shrug)

(And it will be going in for a checkup first thing in the morning!! I was just hoping for some thoughts in the meantime!!)
