2005 Mazda Demio - what is this?

Hi all,

I apologise for the incredibly stupid question, cars aren't my forte unfortunately so this might be obvious.

I'm looking at getting a Mazda Demio (based in New Zealand), I notice that some engines have this tube (circled in red) which runs over the manifold and towards the firewall, what is this?



Whereas some, of the same make/model/year/transmission(MT), don't?

That's a mechanical throttle cable. Newer ones will have drive by wire instead.


Edit: I think? If it goes to the throttle body then yeah, but looking closer does itngo to the hood latch maybe?

Its the throttle body cable.
I thought all the DY demios with the ZJ and ZY engines(1.3 and 1.5) have cable driven throttle bodies.

I miss throttle cables. Drive by wire is terrible. I'll take the occasional IAC valve adjustment over the lack of response from an electronic throttle any time.

Interesting, so at some point Mazda changed from mechanical throttle to drive by wire even though both vehicles are 2005?

For reference this is a 2005 Mazda Demio with the 1.3L engine that I was looking at that doesn't have the mechanical throttle cable. Sorry about the terrible picture, some dealers seem to take photos with potato cameras

Edit: I also managed to find a better picture which clearly shows it is indeed the throttle body cable so thanks for the help!

The 1st should be a 1.3 and the lower one a 1.5 liter.

It seems that mazda changed the throttle body actuation through its time.

I've always wondered what those holes on the intake manifold were for! Looks like the DY demio borrowed the intake manifold from the DE, as even though our mazda2s have drive by wire, we still have the holes for the throttle cable bracket in the picture.
