2005 Mazda 3GT cd player?

My girlfriend just purchased a used 05 Mazda 3 GT, it has the 17" alloys, with moonroof, and the 2.3L engine mated to the 5-spd manual trans. From what I can find online, her car is suppose to have the 6-disc in dash cd player similar to my 06' Speed6. However the load button does not beep like the manaul states, and it never asks to insert disc. I can eject the cd that is in, and if you push the load button with the player empty, it doesn't do anything. You can manually load the player by just putting the cd up to the slot and pushing it in. I guess I just need to know if there is something wrong with the player, or if this car for some reason only does have the single disc unit? If somone could shed some light on the situation that would be great.

Not sure about Canadian option packages, but in the US the 6CD changer was coupled with the moonroof in '05. If they're the same then her car should have the changer. If so then the little bump between the load button and the CD tray should have a little icon on it.... "6CD" with several discs. If it lacks that then she doesn't have the changer, though by the way you've described it she doesn't have it.

It's possible that the packages are different between Canada and the US..... it's equally possible that the previous owner pulled out the changer and put in a single CD player.

A non-changer radio shouldn't have a "Load" button.

Thats what I thought. The radio system between the 3 and my speed6 seem relatively similar. My speed6 had the load button, and so does hers, yet it seems it lacks the 6cd icon and does not allow for any other cds to go into the unit. What I really need to know is anyone with an 04 or 05 mazda 3 that can tell me if they have the displays for the avg fuel and ambient air temp on theirs where it says the radio station etc? This unit shows all those, and from what I read only the 06's were optioned with those functions.. which would tell me that someone has swapped the 6cd for this single cd right? Anyone shed some light on this?
