I stopped by my dealer to check on my car (next week the computer said) and I watched him pull up the info, one of the options listed was a 100 watt sub, it had a code of MC1 which means Model Change - no charge. So, does anyone else have this? Does it sound ok?

Are you sure...

I have the dealer's online order form for our '03 P5 and 1MC is the feature code for the 100 watt in dash 6 CD/Moonroof package. There is no MC1 feature code, or subwoofer listed on the order form or on Mazda's P5 web site.

Jim, this is part of that package, will this cause the engine to over heat to? There is also some panels under the carpet to raise it up for sub clearance, In the panels are some neat little pockets for small item storage. Zoom-Zoom-Zoom

There is a new subwoofer as in accessory in the Mid-Cycle refresh. If you ask most salespeople, they have no idea what you're talking about. If you go to the Mazdausa.com website and try to locate a P5, you'll see that some of them do list a subwoofer as an accessory. By the way, I'm sick of this whole Mid-Cycle refresh thing that Mazda's doing. If you're gonna have it in the car, have it when the new model year comes out. Maybe your sales might increase. (For those Mazda Inc. peeps reading the boards...)

Audi does the same thing, I had a "98.5" A4 which had different tailights, side markers, and dash than the 98 version. Also I owned a "87.5" 4000 quattro that had seat fabric with "quattro" embroidered into it. I agree with you, mid cycle refresh sucks...so is my car a 2003.5 then? I ordered the thing before any 2003's were on the lot back in September.

Well that makes sense, because I did not see the changer/sunroof listed and I did order that. So then they just added a 100 watt sub to the package?

Yep, it's listed as an option.

MCR (100 watt) Subwoofer. It shows up on quite a few of the newly inventoried P5s at the dealers as stated above. You still can't build a P5 with this on Mazda's web site and the specs don't list it either. This is like when the '02 P5s started showing up with the newer wheel style right before the '02 midcycle refresh was done. I wonder if all of the '03 P5s were pre-wired for the sub. Perhaps, gaZoomer can tell us. If I get a chance, I'll go pull the carpeting up in the back on mine tonight and see what is under there. Jim

Wow...

I dont think we (canadians) have the .5 refresh
it's all about 2001, 2002, 2003... models.

hey...a sub is always fun!! i'm going to check that out if we can get it too here in Canada.

100 watt subwoofer

According to the wiring diagram for 03 the connector is there, the connector location is on the backside of the left rear door jamb switch. Pop the two clips out of the lower "c" pillar trim pull the trim panel toward the front of the vehicle, look for white connector, I did check 03.5 and 02.5,harness is not there prior to 03my. As I understand it from the regional director of sales, the subwoofer is a tradeoff for the luggage rack. There is no charge for the subwoofer due to the fact that there is no luggage rack installed or sent with the vehicle. It apparently has nothing to due with 6disc changer/moon roof or anything else. As of 1-28-03 the subwoofer was not avail thru parts, as there has been no price set. No part avail also. It will be avail, part# exists.

When I got towork this morning, found the price qoute on my toolbox, Parts dept. received the call back from corp. part on order, may take 30-60 days to get itthough, then I will wire mine in 02.5 my. Sorry it took so long to replay, was busy over the weekend, found e-mail of reply on 01-27-03. Hope all has been clarified on this issue. And frye, that is gaZoom-Zoom ;)

Humblest of apologies

It is a great insult to screw up one's name. I was being lazy. It will not happen again, oh learned one.

By the way, how big is the woofie? I haven't had a chance to rip my P5 apart to look at where it would mount. Also, does the part number include all wiring and related mounting hardware? Jim

No not you, Being lazy? I was thinking you would replay back with something smart Like" Headlines Headlines I have determined that said subwoofer will cause overheating ". I have not taken apart the case to see what size the actual cone is, overall size is the diameter of the back side of the spare tire rim. approx. 12-13"? amp/speaker/case is all one unit. No it doesn't pump out boomy bass, just adds nice bass fill to p5. And as you well Know the p5 lacked. Here is the hard part, the 02my did not come with said harness and connection for this upgrade, 03my only. Harness ties in in the rear speaker leads,(both) for frequency, has it's own remote turn on from the radio. and it's own power source. As i understand it will come with it's own harness, however this ties into the harness that is in 03my only. So yes, I will be making my own harness to tie it in. Now, between now and the time the sub is shipped, Will it come with an additional harness so that one does not have to be made? I don't know. And I Haven't found out who it is that reads the info and decides to make changes during the running my, But whom ever it is MAYBE he or she will see this and make this available. Zoom-Zoom-Zoom may you say Zoom-Zoom-Zoom as you zip thru the turns with the rear end hanging out. yippieeeeeeee. The sub mounts in the spare tire on the back side, Ya know how the spare is mounted upside down. Thru bolt that holds rim down also holds down the sub. (usa)

Oh gosh, wish you guys could write in french!!

You know, when it's english, i can still go with that and understand, but then, when it's get techniocal, it get worst!!!

Ok....gaZOOM-ZOOM, what does the "02my" means?

Thanks for clearing my mind!!

02my= 2002 model year, 02.5my= 2002.5 model year, 03my= 2003 model year, 03.5= 2003.5 model year 04my= 2004 model year, and so on and so on, now 02.5 and 03.5 are both "mid cycle refresh",get it. (usa)

I've seen it!

I was at Showcase Mazda, here in Phoenix, AZ, on Saturday to get my 3000 mile service done and they have a Yellow 2003 MP5 that has the 100W Sub in the back. It is rather cool. It is designed so that it fits inside the donut. You unscrew it and then you can take the spare out. It just sits inside the spare back there. The floor is raised a bit because of the new storage compartments in the back of the car. It is cool. The car also has a custom interior that the dealerships performance shop (yes my dealer has a performance shop for Mazdas) did like mine. Only this Yellow MP5 has Black leather with yellow insterts and yellow on the door panels, and yellow stiching. It looks sweet. Anyway, the sub does exist. I didn't get to hear it but it looks like it would bump.

*sigh*

I called Mazda Canada customers service: answer is NO
I called my Mazda Dealer: answer is "IMPOSSIBLE"

:o

hey Mazda USA...show some love with Canadians!!!

damn it,

I have a 2002.

I get screwed not having the tweeters on the mirror on the door.
Now they have a 100 watt sub.
F---ing figures.

Is it possible to wire all of the above in on a 2002 protege5.

Thanks
