I believe the timing belt snapped or sheered the teeth off, when I crank the car the accessory belts turn but the cams do not. Am I in trouble, bend valves or should I be ok. The car didn't run long actually it just stopped running no clattering or anything like that. So iam gonna get a tbelt and tensioners, whatever needed and see what happens and pray I didn't bend any valves but I just wanted to know if they are interference engines thanks

The Protege 2.0L is officially non-interference, however, on this forum after timing belts have failed most people have replaced them without a problem. However, there are some reports of bent valves after a timing belt goes. It seems under most circumstances there is no valve damage but in other cases (high rpm failure?) the valves and pistons can make contact.
