Blew my head gasket the other day and now I'm stuck between going at it myself or paying for a shop to do it. I'm decently mechanically inclined and I believe I could do it.

I would aslo fix my leaking valve seal (replace seals), replace timing belt, water pump...

How much would it cost for a shop to do it? $1,800??

I've searched and read what I could find.

A day if you're determined

It's doable by yourself. Have a few mechanically inclined buddies over too, makes it go a s*** ton faster

We also offer Timing belt kits for your vehicle at a great value, $229.45 and it will be one of the most complete kits out there.

ProParts USA Mazda Protege 5 Timing Belt Kit
Nice kit...........except.............I have underdrive crank pulley so the accessory belts would be useless for my car. What's the odds on getting a kit with everything except those 2 belts for say, 175 price range since those belts generally run about 50 for the pr?

Sorry, the price of the kit would only change $14.00. If you had a part # for your belt, we could always substitute it out.

Thanks, I have a few friends that could help.

Is there a repair manual (like a Hayes manual) for this make and model anywhere?

I found this downloadable one that seems legit but a hard copy would be preferred of course.

You can download the shop manual for free. It's stickied here somewhere. Not sure if that's it, I'm on my mobile and can't view it
