2003 P5 Door fob - remotes working intermittently! Help!

2003 Protege5
Hi guys! I recently picked up a 2003 Mazda Protege5. It has its two factory key fob/remotes, but they only work sometimes. The previous owner said she had replaced batteries in the remotes several times and it never seemed to make a difference.

So I replaced the batteries myself only to learn the fobs still wouldn't work. I let one of my daughters use the car and she claimed the remote functioned fine! Baffled, I went out and tried it myself and sure enough... the remotes were working! (completely out of the blue) I took the car to the store, attempted to lock the doors with the fob and guess what?... it stopped working again.

When the car decides the remotes are allowed to work, BOTH remotes work fine. When it decides it's time to put a halt to such convenience, BOTH remotes cease functioning at the same time.

Over the last month of ownership of the car, everything about it acts and performs perfectly... except for the door remotes. It's a crapshoot.

Anybody have any suggestions? Thanks!!

Dale

Can always add an aftermarket system for keyless entry. Can add on an alarm and/or remote start while you're at it for more convenience.

It could be the alarm module, its located under the driver side dash upper left hand corner. It is a clear box shaped module.

Aftermarket alarm? Not a bad suggestion. But I'd really like to have the factory remotes working in the meantime.

915- Do you know if the alarm module is something to go out? And if so, it isn't something that has to be coded to work with the car, is it? In other words, if I can get another from a parts car, I'm hoping that it'd just be a plug-n-play sort of deal.

I would think it's just plug and play, I work a chevy dealership and noticed that all the new cars like after 2004 require reprograming for every thing, lime ac controls, switchs even the brake light switchs

If you were to replace the brain (alarm control module), you would need to program your current remotes to the new brain. Otherwise anyone with the same car could get into yours!

Thanks again, guys. There's a local guy near me who's parting out a 2002 P5. His control module should work in my 03, shouldn't it?
