I was wondering if a new clutch kit for the base model Protege 2.0 will work on a Mazda Speed?

It costs $150 for a new kit for a base model, reason I ask. I need to replace my bearings and my pressure plate. I can get the bearings and disc for a Mazda Speed at a good price, but no pressure plate.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Don't even mess around trying to save a few bucks on something that crucial and difficult to replace. I found that out the hard way, and tranny R&R is not fun.

Get in touch with JDM Sam and get the Exedy Stage1 clutch kit. Mine was around $330 or so. It comes with everything you need, including a throwout bearing, pilot bearing and alignment tool, and is an awesome product. I've had many cars and many more clutches, and I can't stop raving about how great it is. It operates just like the stock unit (made by same peeps), but has a higher torque capacity. Oh yeah, do NOT skimp and pass on having the flywheel resurfaced. Yes, I learned that the hard way too.

My pilot bearing keeps going out too. Any tips on preventing this from happening. This is my second one and the car only has 35,000. You should be able to go at least 100,000 miles on a pilot bearing.

Good question. I think my original failed early as well, but I couldn't prove it. That shouldn't happen.

get a fine grit sandpaper and go in circles with it.
very lightly, works like a charm.

What would you consider "fine grit"? I've seen some pretty fine grit sand paper for paint applications, something like 2000 grit before.
