Is it ok if I post information on the USTCC or other Mazda-related NASA Events (like driving schools or other amateur racing series)? I was always wondering it I'd be interested in watching some races or taking schools until I met someone else who told me what to do.

So far there are 2 Mazda only racing series Spec Miata Challenge (1990-1997 miatas) and Pro7 (1979-1985 12a rx7s). there is also the Super Unlimited class 13b rx7s are very competitive

Thanks.

I'm interested in road racing also. I'm actually thinking of getting rid of my MP3 and getting a Miata and boost the s*** out of it. Something about 180hp in a feather lite car just gets me all excited. I just have to get over the gay guy factor of driving a Miata first. :D

hey nasa, what exactly do i need to do to be able to race on road courses?
one thing you can do is get into a race school (tracks and organizations won't let you drive a road course without any experience)...Skip Barber, SCCA, Nasa, etc all offer driving lessons that get you the experience...they require that you have an instructor in the car with you since it is wheel to wheel and in schools you have to follow certain rules to pass others

http://www.nasaracing.net/ is the virginia region (md/dc/va area)of nasa that often has HPDE (high performance driving experience) classes...this includes classroom instruction and seat time with an experience instructor...you also get the chance to do ride alongs in your instructors car or with another instructor (always ask to get these...they are fun and you learn lots)...they are 1 day and 2 day hpde events at tracks like summit point (close to you...there is one this nov 2/3) virginia international speedway, lowes motor speedway, and charlotte motorsports park

for hpde you just need a good working car with all major items working (brakes & lines, engine, tires in good condition and not bald), a helmet [you can borrow them], and if you have a convertible it requires a roll cage.

after taking so many lessons etc you move up the experience chart...novice, intermediate, advanced, super advanced, then to competition and you are ready to race

you can also just go and watch (have to pay to get in the track) and buy some watcher's rides ($20 / ride) where you get to do a ride along for a couple laps...sometimes there are 911 turbos and Vipers, etc that take ride alongs :)

i will be at summit on nov 2/3 in my pr5 (if not the crx)...let me know if you are interested in stopping by

http://www.nasatx.com/html/main.html for the local nasa region by you...scca also has a region there but i don't know the website for them...both are good places...as above you'd have to take lessons before actually competitively racing in a series

as for the mp3...that is one awesome handling sedan with a pretty powerful engine though undertuned at 150hp (more than my pr5 though that i drive on the track)...there are several series that you can use the mp3 in if you wanted...though a spec miata is fun and very fast (the spec miatas are running 200hp [edited] without forced induction)...and nothing "cute" about a miata running 5-6 second faster laps than a v8 stang or camaro...you can build a miata up for racing for less than $10k including buying the car [and it can still be a daily driver]

Yeah, that's why I'm seroiusly considering the Miata. If I do it it wont be a daily driver though. But how in the hell do they get 200whp without FI? That is some serious tuning. My plan is to build a turbo Miata with completely race ready suspension and get into SoloII racing more and then going from there. I've raced my MP3 in a autocross, but I just havent had time since then with all the engine problems I've been having.

have you turbo'd your mp3?...i haven't had a single reliabilty probl with my pr5...and was considering getting the fm turbo kit down the line if i still want to keep it when the warranty expires

doh!...my bad about the 200whp in a spec miata (i meant hp at the crank)...i type often type too fast for my own good and whp is a rating i usually type...so it's 200hp at the crank not whp

I've had engine problems because of a small accident on the way to work one morning. Some road debris I ran over poped up and knocked my oil return line from my turbo loose. So my engine was being oil starved and I didn't know it until I got to work. So my motor needs new bearings everywhere.

youch...sorry to hear that...is insurance covering it?...it guess it would be in comprehensive coverage clause...

I dont know, I figured since the turbo was something that wasn't stock they wouldn't cover it. I havent even thought about reporting it to the insurance company. I wonder if it would make my rates go up?

technically it is an accident (no fault for you)...though the oil feed line which was damaged was not stock...did something happen to your oil pan like a small hole, etc...if that did then set your car back to stock and take a claim (it may raise your insurance but not much compared to a complete engine rebuild

on 2nd thought it may also be covered under your insurance provision b/c it was attached to your car and should be considered part of it (like if you had your car broken into and had a nice aftermarket headunit insurance would cover htat)
