'02 P5 Xtreme Edition
Hi there... used the search button but limited info came up. Was wondering if anyone out there has info on the '02 P5 Xtreme editiona. The one i'm looking at has leather, an air intake, magnaflow exhaust and was all supplied from the dealer. Just curious as to value and such compared to regular P5's.

Any info would be great :)(canada)

lol, never heard of it. Some did seem to come with leather as a dealer added option. I'm guessing the dealer just did that (or received it like that as a trade-in?) and called it Xtreme edition hoping they could make a bit more.

Never heard anything about it, but sounds like it's just a full equipped P5 with mods that someone's tried to pawn off as an Xtreme version, lol. I put my money on it having an S10 Xtreme badge on it.

heh. kinda makes me think back on the sticker for mine saying it was a protege 5 ES. dont think ive ever seen one of those either heh.
there are a few lots around here and vancouver selling p5 sports too heh.

Leather is nice, but doesnt really suit the car honestly and is easy to slip around on. I testdrove one with it and i have to say, my trusty cloth was much more comfy.

no such edition existed. Leather was a mazda option i think it was an additional $1000 CAD in 2002. No cold air intake existed in 2002. The first cold air intake to come out was the injen and that was probably early 2003

As for the ES in 2002 thats how some companies were labeling it. My insurance company had ES written on the insurance paper for quite a while i recall.

haha... some good replies... though she bought it BRAND NEW in 2002 from Weber Motors which sells Mazda and Mercedes-Benz. All the equipment I mentioned came stock with the car. There are no coffee cans and no decals from CanadianTire on it. haha. I wish there was a link to it online. I may have to email the dealer and see if they have info on it. It's certainly an oddity. I'll take some pictures and try and get them up today.

Car came from the dealer new with an intake and magnaflow exhaust??? Sorry, I find that a little hard to believe. (headshake)

Actually, it's completely believable that it came new that way from the dealer, just not from Mazda. Dealers are more than happy to put $200 worth of stuff on a car and sell it as a $600 special package!

Now that I can agree with but I was going by SNike05's post. Unless of course it was a leftover 02 model and they put on a few additional parts, jacked up the price and called it something fancy to move it off the lot.

you guys kill me. I can assure you it came from the dealer that way. Whether or not it was jacked up - who cares. Pay for what you want and be happy. Here are some pics.

I don't think anyone meant to criticize the car or the buyer, just the application of the word "extreme" and the marketing of it as though it were a special edition of the P5. It's not.

The leather isn't the Mazda factory leather, that was all black, with no logo. What's on there is aftermarket, probably added by the dealer, along with the muffler, intake and 50 horsepower "Extreme" sticker. Nothing wrong with all that, we're just letting you know that "P5 Extreme Edition" is just something someone made up to make a few bucks, and isn't anything legitimately made/marketed by Mazda. If you talk about your "Extreme P5" on here, people are going to laugh at you.

-wearing your underwear on the outside doesn't make you Superman, you know. ;)

Oh, but did you buy the car? It looks pretty nice, other than the Extreme sticker. Welcome to the forum, sorry about the abuse. :D

the leather is aftermarket not mazda. You can see that the door panels have been done. The strut bar is from the mp3 (or painted). the intake is short ram and is simply universal piping which would explain how it was available in 2002. The leather could have been done by nwauto leather in vancouver it looks like there work and they were doing a lot of work for mazda dealers then. Just remove the extreme and you got a great car.

Thanks a bunch!! That's the info I was looking for. Sorry if I came across as being ungrateful. I've been on ToyotaNation for years so I understand when a newbie comes up with a wtf kinda question. The Extreme puzzled me too. Good to know about the factory leather vs. aftermarket. At least it's all making sense now.

As for buying it... if I did buy it I would certainly remove the stickers - especially the dealer's sticker. My wife and I both drive new vehicles and unless someone's paying us to advertise, get that #*#* off my ride. She bought a new Mitsu last year and usually they put this HUGE rear window decal on.

I haven't bought it. Most of the P5's around here are going for anywhere between $9500 and $11,000 privately. ($13,500 at the stealerships). I love the way the car handles - coming from a 98 Civic and now an '05 Tacoma. She's firm on the price of $12000 and i'm sure she'll get it. It only has 80,000 kms on it. Though it has some body damage (scraped a pole) but isn't noticeable (sorta). It needs new tires ($700), new windshield (cracked at bottom - liveable), new foglamps (both cracked) ($240 ebay), and new brakes, possibly rotors ($200, i'll install myself). One of the front headlights is also chipped along the side. So i'm not sure. I'm selling my Tacoma and looking for an older Chev or Ford - late 90's to early 2000's. Just need a more heavy duty application. Thought it would be good to have the P5 to run around if needed. Anyway... that's my story.

Well, I can't see the pics since I am at work, but the others have described it enough for me. It all makes sense now and sorry if it seemed like I was bashing you...wasn't my intentions.

Anyway, check around the forum here first for some of the stuff you described that needs to be replaced.

There are currently two sets of P5 fogs in the f/s section for well under $240.

As for brakes/rotors check the Vendor section under tires/rims/brakes/suspension for Tri-point. They are having a great sale on pads and rotors. Got a full set of four for approx $170 shipped.

The windshield you should be able to get fixed by your insurance co. (I just had mine done a couple of weeks ago $100 deductible).

$700 seems like a lot for just tires unless the wheels are shot. When you search look for 195/50/16 (stock), 205/45/16 and 205/50/16. All three will fit with no problems and there is a better selection and range of prices in the 205/45 and 205/50 sizes.

Oh yeah, Welcome!
