2002 Mazda Protege 5
Basically, I'm having an issue. My engine seized up due to a flood in my area. The bottom end is destroyed; However, the head is ok. Is there any other motors that I can use in my car other than 2001-2003 protege 2.0l fs? I can not find one around my area anywhere. Or will another complete bottom end *block* fit with my head and work fine? Sorry I'm new to imports. I've owned nothing but muscle, and I decided to mess with mazdas for the hell of it. They turned out to be alright cars. I dumped about 4 grand in suspension, and now my motor is gone! So Im pretty much stuck. Any help would be appreciated.

By the way, I'm new to the forum. Hoping to fix my vehicle and learn some new things. Thanks

I posted before, but apparently in the wrong area. I found a mazda 626 motor from a 1999. It's 2.0l. My question is, if i swap the head off of my my motor will the 626 block work?

I don't have any info on used motors, but have you checked with your insurance company to see if they will cover it? I know there was a guy on here who crossed a small creek with his P5 and hydrolocked his motor through his CAI...and his insurance covered a new engine. That might work...

The FS-DE was used in a lot of different cars. There is a really good thread with interchangability info that I'll try to find. Off the top of my head you can use an 01+ 626 engine. The coil pack, valve cover, cam gears and possibly the crank pulley are different. It is the closest version of the FS-DE to ours.
