- 2000 mazda protege es
I have a 2000 Mazda protege es with manual trans and the 1.8l engine. I got 235,000 miles off the original engine and everything attached including the clutch. My car started blowing lots of smoke so i thought it was time for a rebuild. This is not my first rebuild but it is my first Mazda rebuild. I decided to put new everything new on it hoping it would last a long time. its done and it runs really bad and it wont idle and at high rpm it runs better but still not good. I was in a hurry and did not want to wait for my original head to get rebuilt so i found a online shop that had a head ready to be shipped out so i bought that and had the bottom end honed and the crank polished. I bought a dnj engine kit and put the whole thing back together. It only has 120psi on all four cylinders when i did a compression test. MY car was built in 09/00 with a 1.8l engine. I want to know how can i tell if i was send the wrong head? my head has the fs9 casting mark and so dose the one i got from the online store but i know that the 2.0l engine also has the same fs9 casting mark. I would like to start with this problem and then go from there. Thanks
