2000 Mazda Protege ES
I have a 2000 Mazda Protege ES with 195,000 miles on it and I would like to know if i should get a turbo for it??!!?? I know a man who is selling a turbo off of a 2003 MazdaSpeed for around $800 and he will get me the gauges and everything off of his. I would like to know if this is a good deal and if my 1.8 liter could handle it. I've never had one problem with the engine and have always run synthetic oil.

Do a compression test. If it's in spec, why not? Just run 7lbs like the stockers. Is it a manual? However I Don't know if that ECU will work though, or if the FSDE-t computer will interface with your 1.8.

Yes it is a manual and I had the same thought on the ECU because he isn't selling that.

I haven't yet. I'm still a little sketchy on throwing a turbo on with all the wear i have even though the engine has ran fine, i'm worried if i blow my engine i wont have a car. But turbo blow off wakes me in my sleep (:

Get a spare motor 800 is a damn good deal

The 1.8 can handle more than an fsde anyway. Once you get a spare motor find some gtr rods and you'll bee good to go for 15-20 psi.

If you don't believe me the gtr rods are better than what's in my b6t and it sees 16-18 psi Atleast 3 times a day and the previous owner rallied it

the ecu wont just plug in, so you don't need it. get an ssafc or other fuel controller, and you'll be fine.

the 1.8 should be a nice little motor with a turbo on it.

Megasquirt makes a plug and play kit though. Look on stratified, I believe they come with a base tune as well

Not the same engine, if you want to go turbo, the clue part to start with is the exhaust manifold. From there you can piece it together with some improvisation. If looking for an easy setup, get a kit. If you can handle a few more days then go custom.

The exhaust manifold will specify the turbo type to use and you select the turbo trim depending on the feedback that you want from the car.

The rest of electronics (injection, pumps, hoses, pipes, EMS, etc) is considering power output.

Turbo is by far the most efficient performance setup including longetivity*.

* - Get real, you want the car in the garage or in the streets...? Depends in your driving. Stay safe and enjoy.
