2000 Mazda Millenia catalytic converter replacement

Our 2000 is giving off codes PO300 and PO431. From my research it indicates the catalytic converter as the O2 sensor would not trigger the 431 code also.

I found several on-line as a replacement but don't know which to choose. Also can a "small town" mechanic do the job or do I need to take it into the city? Is there anything else we should go ahead and replace at the same time; Oxygen Sensor, etc.?

Runs great, no other complaints other than a tiny oil leak that the dealer can't locate. They have put dye in the oil change every time for the past year and still can't trace the leak.

If you have 70k or less just replace the cat. MOre then likey the 02 sensor went too, so that will need replacement.

If you have 70k + I would do plugs and wires too.

You could probably do both yourslef witha jack, a wrench and some PB blaster.

If you are not mechanically inclined I would take it to a trust worthy mechanic.

It's an easy fix ;)

I'm not 100% sure.... but the catalytic converter might be under Mazda warranty ;)

no. the cat is considered a general wear and tear item.

eventually cats go bad and they need to be replaced.
