ok, I was installing a transmission cooler the other day and had to take out the front grill so i could get my hands in there to work. also there were these 2 plastic fins that seem to seperate the air vent below the license plate with the one on the grill.

here is several pictures i took yesterday that will give you guys an idea what im talking about.

here are some pics when i put them in how they were originally. just to clear possible confusion the big blue plastic on the pics is the front bumper after the grill has been removed.

to mee this looks like it has something to do with forced air pressure to reduce it from going down or up once it enters the radiator area.

any ideas? thanks in advance.

It probably helps direct airflow by cutting down on turbulence or something.

i guess i will leave them in there. is there any other way to increase airflow without removing front grills and doing dual fan mod? and i also will not be getting a hood with holes in it. is there anything i can remove like plastic shielding to help with circulation without really damaging anything under the hood?

Remove the weather strip up close to the windshield. This allows hot air to vent more easilly. Put it back in in the winter, hot air from engine on cold windshield can crack the windshield.

holy crap! i like that idea!!!! never thought about that!! what else i can do? and by the way all this is in preperation for a 22 hour drive next month to florida from NJ. i got the transmission cooler done and just looking for other ways to help. and also i put this "ice water" coolant replacement that supposed to lower coolaqnt temp by 28 deg F. here is a link to my trans cooler thread.

Why do you think you need to lower the air temp in the engine bay/coolent temp? You are going to be driving what- 75-90mph? The car is going to cool itself just fine without mods...

well, the tranny cooler i did cuz my tranny fluid looks blacker then my oil. tranny fluid is supposed to be red just a bit at least but it wasnt at all. if you didnt smell it you would think its engine oil. as far as the rest of the cooling i want is basicly i dont want any heat related breakdowns on the way to florida. i will probably have the ac on the whole time as i can only deal with wind noise with open windows/sunroof for a while. and i nolonger have warranty so i want to keep the car in the best condition that i can.
