I have read about the 2011 mazda 2 turbo that was built for the sema show in 2011 but what if instead of a mzr 2.3 we put a 2.5 skyactiv in without too many modifications. If the drivetrain bolts up with maybe some minor custom motor mounts, all we need now is a custom haltech ecu. This neeeds to happen!

It doesn't bolt up. You'd need the engine with trans. Custom mounts. Custom axle shafts. Find a way to control the electric PS. Hope the speed sensors all jive with the ABS.

I think the way to do it would be to run a normal 2.0 or 2.5 with trans and attempt to use the 1.5l ECM, you'd need to build or modify a crank trigger wheel possibly, maybe have a camshaft made with a custom trigger built in to mimic the 1.5 cam trigger. This would ensure you don't have any compatibility problems. Clearly it would need tuned since its not a 2.0 or 2.5 but that seems like the easy button. Don't forget about cooling too, a bigger radiator would probably be a smart idea.

I'd love to attempt this with someone else's money :)

I think you'd have an easier time swapping a Fiesta ST engine into the car, and I don't even know how easy that would be.

You would think a full Fiesta ST swap would be pretty straightforward, what with it still sharing the 2's platform. I'd be interested in seeing someone attempt it with a wrecked ST.

Just get the ecu from from the 2.5 and adapt it to the chassis. Thats what we've done with the older Mazda engine swaps.
