1st - 2nd gear bang (speed 6)

My upgraded MM is in the mail ... what put me over the edge is after I heard my motor thumping around b/w 1st - 2nd... after my run I popped the hood had my buddy put my car in gear and pull on the ebrake and give it just a little to medium amount of gas ... try it... and watch how much the engine moves and I'm not talking just rev'g it when its not under any load either which it will move some. When I saw how much it moved my friend and I swore it was broken there is no way an engine can move that much and not have alignment issues or something else fail over time...I went underneath I'm almost certain its not broken. At that point I think you can make a valid argument that a new motor mount will help stabilize the car even on daily/spirited driving. I cringed after witnessing the engine move that much and thinking about launching the car hard.

check you rear diff mount bolts

it could be the diff mount has to bolts on the right side of the diff check them out . i had the same bang from 1st to 2nd and got under the car just to find out one bolt unscrew it selt half way and the other one snap in half . if snap in half don't panic get some good wysegrip pliers and they will do the trick . i had alot of mods so it was quicker to buy the bolst at the dealer they were 3 bucks each order like 4 because it happen again . i guess under vibration and load the come loose you just have to be checking them ofthem if you are launching hard alot .

Yeah but they shouldn't be snapping, which is why they have differential mounts available for the cars now.(headbang)

Well I have the Stage 1 SS and the Rear AWR Mount "88 Duro" and still get a thud when shifting from 1st to 2nd at any rpm. Every other shift is fine. What could the problem be? There's only 30,000 km on the car.

Old thread but you did your searching :). EVen with my mount I still get a little thud on fast 1-2 shifts. Its much more reasonable though. Doesn't sprain my neck or sound like my engine just slammed onto the pavement so I can live with it.

As far as what I've read, the only motor mount that really takes care of the 1-2 shift and also the rear differential, are the mounts from turbine tech.... they cost a good penny but from what I have seen, people swear by them.

I'm gonna order the Front TT Mount, Rear Diff Mount, and Diff Bushings next week, hopefully that will cover everything.
