1989 Honda Civic Hatchback vs 1999 Mazda Miata review.

I've been driving the the civic for more than a month now I thought I was hot s*** driving a slow car pretty aggressively and confidently around town. Just chucking that 18 year hatch around corners is pretty fun. Dare i say chasing a cars w/ more than 1.5L was a riot.

This past Memorial Day, I got to take out my dad's stockish miata and took it around the neighborhood breifly. (omg) the 10 year difference between them felt like is as cliche as Day and night.

Miata:
-way quicker than i remember. .3L torque, power, and exhaust noise difference is very noticeable. DOHC vs SOHC
-powersteering made me feel hulk like and very luxurious. Direct and precise. The steering in the civic almost had much play as a f-150 steering wheel or any large size truck.
-shifting is nice and direct w/ little effort. the shifter in the civic felt like moving a straw around a cup of large slushy.
-cornering: unattainable. didn't go there and didn't push it that hard since i didn't have the confidence to do so.
-topdown: feels good and draws alot of attention but no where near the attention that a ferrari would.
(enguard)

Civic:
- Its made in Canada?!
-Almost pick-up-like trunkspace
-fits up to five people and a small dog.
-somewhat stealthy to police.
-will out run my miata. Civic only holds 9.5 gallon to the miata 12.5gallons The civic averaged 29.9mpg vs the miatas 23.5mpg. 10 bucks gets me half a tank.
-reliable!
-daydreaming sleeper project w/ the availibilty on interchangeable parts. 90% is PNP
-torqueless tortoise slow.ever gone head to head w/ a geo metro? A dissertation can be written about the meaning of life.
-parallel parking w/ no powersteering is an aerobic workout in sauna w/ the toasty weather.
-interior is worn and has spartan-like safety features (tough guys don't use airbags and properly functioning seatbelts). To walk away from a wreck is a trick that will keep Lance Burton occupied for ages.
-i think it has more chasis flex than a miata. The noise it makes sounds like it whimpering.
- the paint and body is in better shape than my miata.

In a sense it was power everything vs power nothing. There is more pro's and con's but that will take forever to write. this is a just a brief observation.

The winner? Well, the judge cards say the civic since its the only one left standing. (first)

dude... wait till we get your mx-5 back and running :)

the only reason you rate the civic is cos your mx-5 still has a hole in the side of it's motor :)

tho you did get a pretty cool civic...

w/the new rx-7... it has no power steering... after a 30-minute test drive when we fix new things on the 7... I feel like SUPERMAN when I wrench on my mx-5's steering wheel... (tho my MX5's stiffer clutch makes me feel like a mere mortal after I'm used to the 7's stock clutch...)

the hole in motor is a lightweight mod.

With the miata it was finding ways to make it faster; a cornering giant slayer. sucky-driver-mod is the hardest one to sort out.

With the civic, the challenge is trying ways to keep it the most gas efficient. record showed it got up to 40mpg! where the hell did my 10mpg go?

hey look it's gan san...
you know, i like driving my dx around town.
something about it is jolly... mabey the ultra low dashboard?
and gas consumption is minimal.
