1972 Datsun 510 (56k best of luck)

not all your fault I may have taken it wrong.

So whats a Be-cool rabbit Rad.w4e I may have to look into that. got to keep a 2.4l cool.

I may have to call Troy about that. I got my 280zx tokico struts and ground controls from him. but that should get me as low as I need to go since I plan to run 15s on the car. Cant go to low or I wont be able to turn, since I'm still torn if I want to do flares or not.

I'll have to keep that in mind about the r160. Since I'm half broke I figured I could kee the 160 until I broke it. I though the quiafe for the stock 160 was EXPENSIVE as hell.

What did you guys do to the subbie 160. I though you had to modify the stock axles to get them to work?

the Be-cool is a brand of alluminum Rad,you can get them through Jegs or Summintracing.

as for the R160,all you have to do is take of the subbie stub axles, and stick on the 510 ones,it takes about 2 minutes, and yes,the Quafie is DAMN expensive, but when it's in a R160 it will react/outperform,and take more abuse then a R200,and theres the fact that it literaly bolts in.

your best bet is to just get a R160 LSD from a subbie. price/performance/ease of install you really can't beat it.

Must depends on the year and type of subbie r160 you get, for some reason there is a guy on then 510realm that had to modify the axles a little. Had to cut something off of the end. I can't remember exactly.

there is a year or two that had stub axles mounted from the inside, thats what he must have been using.

Oh ok. thanks for the help. hopefully I'll actually have her running this year. I'll run the stock r160 until I blow it up. Then go from there.

OH MAN. I just found this.
I have wanted an SR or KA powered 510 since I was 13. My Dad has owned 5 510's in the last 30 years. Two two doors (one a bluebird, still has the grill), one 4 door, and two wagons. Still has the Red '71 wagon.
I'l be following this one closely.

And why the hell would anyone living past the 90's want an L20 when they could have a modern, fuel injected, DOHC motor? Please. L20's were cool in 1985.

It is an old car. The L series motors are what they came with. Think purest.(rockon)

Should cram in an rb26dett. That would be straight baller. I would give you mad props and mail you a $5 bill if you did that.

freek said a company in northern cali did it. but it definatly causes the firewall to be moved back!! But cool.

I think he is talking to a guy right now. The guy is motor swaping his car and freek is gettign the engine, harness, tranny and ecu from a runngi car to dop in it. its a guys daily driver so he is just waitign for the right time. He should have this runngi by summer!

Thanks for the compliment guys. Yes I was actually going to update this in a few days.

The L20 is an AWESOME motor. This is going to be a fun car, if I ever build another dime it will have a highly built L20 with side drafts in it. I LOVE the sound of side drafts full opened up.

Alien is right though, hopefully the next couple weeks I will be picking up a strong running '96 KA24DE with a header and intake, transmission, ecu, wiring harness and clutch. Hopefully seeing another friend soon to get my fuel pump. And going to swap in my modified rear cross member this weekend. I can't wait to work on her.

gbean - Does your dad still have the bluebird or any more parts from it. I would love to see the grill, depending on which one it is I might be interested in trying to buy it.

As for the RB motor. The ONLY way I would do that is to a wagon, to get any 6 cylnder into a dime you have to cut the fire wall up a little. Plus that just adds to much weight here is an example of a RB in a dime

Thats absurd looking, bet its going to be fast as s*** though. Im a fan of the KA as well. Its a good motor and its got that edge of displacement over the SR20. Build is looking good so far, can't wait to see it completed.

The Grill is the only Bluebird part he kept, and knowing him, there is no way he will sell it. have to wait til he is gone, and he is only 52 and can still do 15 pullups......
anywho, this really got me excited to get a 510 soon. I always thought the KA would be a great route, and it can handle LOADS of power. It is so hard to find a decent Dime in Nor Cal for a reasonable price.

Lol, I can understand why he wouldn't want to. Its getting harder and harder to find good deals on dimes. Either they are too rusted out or they are too fixed up and too expensive. I got lucky on my two door, guy needed to get rid of it and was a pot head so I got it for $800. I originally planned to go SR, but luckily I had some 240 friends that lead me to the light and say the power the KA can make and handle.

Lucky Bastard. Where do you live?

Yeah I have only seen rusted to crap ones here for cheap (North Bay Area)
I found one in Orange COunty with a 95 KA in it already, but with a blown head gasket, for $4500 adn contemplated going down there, fixing the head gasket and driving it back, but I lost touch with teh seller on dime quarterly.
Arrgh I want one so bad right now.
There is also a badass blue 510 here that has a VG30DETT in , makes about 450 HP

I'm in Kansas City. My first one was a 4 door in not so bad condition I got for $1000, had to drive to wyoming to get it. Sadly its getting harder and harder to find one in ok condition. Sometimes you can find a deal.

thats a clean well built 510....i dont see why not...

Its highly over priced. Look at the big history it took a 10k dollar jump. Not to discredit it, its a nice dime, but way over prices. Hopefully I'll have some updates on mine soon. I've got a motor lined up now, just waiting to get it, I'm cleaning up my 280zx brakes and getting ready to install the rear crossmember.

Car is looking good.

I can take the 71' off your hands for you. I've been wanting it since I picked up the hood.

It should be a rolling chassis here in the next few weeks. If you really want it we can work something out.
